The San Diego Museum of Man is your museum! Join the hundreds of thousands of people each year who come to see its exhibits on beer, monsters, torture, race, human and primate evolution, and more. You can also experience one of most important ancient Egyptian collections in the United States, which includes authentic Egyptian mummies, an exceptionally rare child sarcophagus, and one of the world's few surviving examples of Nefertiti's cartouche. Also, for the first time in 80 years, we are now offering guided tours of the California Tower - one of San Diego's most iconic landmarks. Tower tour tickets are timed like theater tickets, so be sure to purchase tickets in advance to secure your desired date and time.

I really enjoyed this museum. Most Natural History museums might dedicate a single floor of a wing to human history, but here you get an entire building! There were a mixture of static displays, themed display sets, and hands on activities, so it should even appeal to younger (elementary) kids. Like many museums, it hosts traveling displays as well. "Cannibals"... More

This was the first time we have stopped at the Museum of Man. We were amazed with the the wide range of attractions and displays that had available. It was much more robust than we had expected given the size of the facility. We were especially interested in the exhibit on cannibalism. it was educational and disturbing.

For three of us, my wife and I and our 16 year old daughter, we had booked a sailing trip later this day and only had 1- 2 hours for all the museums in Balboa Park (There must be 15 -20) and we picked this one. The special exhibit at this time was on cannibals, that was in the building... More

Oh Mummy Mia, where do I start with this one. For those of you wanting to hear nice things I'll say the Mummy and Egypt part of the museum is awesome. If I knew that it housed almost the only actual artifacts I would have walked straight there, looked, and then went back home to brush my cat. At least... More

I loved the mummies upstairs. I thought their collection was better than some traveling exhibits I've paid much more to see. We did this as part of the day pass so it was more affordable.

Only one of the great museums in Balboa Park! This is a must visit, if you can only visit one or two. If you have time for more, consider buying one of the week long museum passes that will get you entrance to each of the 17 museum and museum type venues for only $55. Probably the best deal in... This museum was rather small. It took us only 2 hours to get through, and there were only about 6 exhibits including one meant for children. One of the exhibits called Monsters was tiny and meant for children. If you're looking for a more immersive museum experience, look elsewhere.

While a smallish museum, the Museum of Man was very well done, and great for families. My son (age 33) and myself spent about an hour at the museum and found it to be quite enjoyable and informative. While maybe not a historical gem, it caters to all ages and gives a nice overall review of the ascension of man,... More

This is a not a huge museum (which I think is a GOOD thing), but all of it is interesting, and there are some great exhibits. It's also situated in a beautiful historic building in the even more beautiful Balboa park. Highlights for me were the temporary exhibits on beer (fascinating!) and race (very thought provoking).
