Enjoyed the Museum - Old Masters

This is a free museum in the Park. There was a wonderful display of intricate Christmas ornaments that were quite beautiful. Although a small collection, it was very good.

We were pleasantly surprised to find that this museum was free! It is a small place and not crowded mid-week. They had a few masters and a good exhibit of Russian Icons. well done!

Do you just wear out in big museums? Do you feel frustrated that your feet are shot before you see half of it? This is the place for you. It is a small museum with only top paintings by the most significant painters of Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, and America. It has only six galleries but those have Guercino, Rubens, Rembrandt,... What can I say ... The top notch European art, the paintings are masterpieces and it's all free. Yes, it's a small museum, but this is really as much as most people need to get an idea in one visit.

This is a small free museum inside Balboa Park, but worth stopping by. The collection was very impressive of older original works as far back as 700 hundred years old. A striking display of the style of the times as well as a good history in the religious aspect that effected the painting of the time. Very interesting

This small jewel box of a museum contains only masterpieces. The Zurbaran made me gasp with pleasure, it is so compelling a portrait. There simply are n second-rate canvases here. The architect acted like a jeweler, designing the perfect setting for these gems. Best of all,it's often not crowded, so you can get up close and personal with Peter Paul... More

It is the only free exhibit in Balboa Park and provides an interesting display of art in essentially four rooms. It is worth a visit as there is some interesting exhibits but you do not need to spend much time here.

My wife and I went to this museum while touring San Diego. The art collection is very nice albeit small. The staff at this museum consists of people, who seem to have NO interest in being pleasant and nice to visitors. They were grumpy and indeed one of them was quite rude when we went to retrieve our backpack after... More

Free entry! Grrat small collection of mainly 16th to 18th Century Art. Many of the frames marked 'The Putnam Foundation'. Their world renowned Rembrandt is at another venue this year but returns in 2017 with a friend! Photography permitted so I have posted shots of my favourite works. Allow an hour for your visit.

This is a tiny (free) museum with some great art. As I understand, the art is from private collection and is changed. When I visited, they had a room full of Dutch Masters and a temporary exhibit on loan of Russian art. There are probably 6-8 rooms altogether and I believed I spent close to an hour there. A great...
