One of our stops on the Canyon de Chelly South Rim drive. Takes a while to get to but absolutely worth it. Get the interpretive guide from the visitor center for an explanation of the rock itself...it looks nothing like a spider!

We first experienced, Spider Rock, on our Canyon de Chelly jeep tour with Leona Taking the jeep tour was a great way to get up close and personal. We ate lunch in the canyon at the base of Spider Rock. Then in the afternoon saw a great sunset at the overlook just above Spider Rock, just a great experience!

To see the cliff dwellings and pictographs, it's necessary to hire a guide. There are various jeep tours, but we took Bobby Vanwinkle's into the canyon and could not have been happier. Bobby's niece Colleen Hunter (2 master's degrees) was an awesome guide. She told us stories of her ancestors and relatives, who are for the most part traditional Navajo.... More

We visited at sunset and the top of the peaks were sun lit and the valley in full fall colors. Unbelievable view and look from the lookout. A short walk from the parking lot on a nice sidewalk.

We did a horse tour into the Canyon. But saw Spider Rock after the tour from the road in our car. It was spectacular. I suppose it would have been amazing from the bottom up, but we were not up to an 8 hour horse back tour. However the 3 hour tour was really great! Justin's horse tours.

A spectacular and huge rock formation at the end of the canyon - well worth going the distance for. Canyon De Chelley ("shay") is well off the beaten track for most but I urge everyone to make the effort to see it - it's amazingly photogenic/picturesque. A MUST SEE!

This is the star of Canyon De Chelly and the best scenic drive. It is at the end of the south rim drive and well worth making it all the way to the end.

This stop on the South rim provides an awesome view and can be reached via a comfortable walk from the parking lot. I would start with this spot, especially if time might be short for the visit to the South rim.

I'd heard a lot about this feature from my late brother, who used to teach in a school on the Indian Reservation, which is part of this landmark. Some people call New York city an architectural gem. Nope, this one feature beats everything in all of our cities combined – and this one will still be standing when the others... More

Spider rock can be seen from a few different overlooks. It is quite an impressive sight. Very good photo opportunities are abound. Try to see it during the afternoon for better lighting.
