Canyon De Chelly Tours is an enterprise of Leon Skyhorse Thomas. Every guide is a professional, certified by the National Park Service by examination. In addition to tours of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument, cultural consulting needs are addressed on a case by case basis for those who seek a more intimate insight onto the Navajo Way. Leon has assisted film-makers on location in Navajoland and is used to delivering high quality services to the people and organizations he serves. There are over 2700 archaeological sites within the many canyons of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Only 13 of the 700 standing ruins have been stabilized, re-inforced, or protected from degradation. We are professional Navajo guides who can teach you the history of our canyons and about the Anasazi, Hopi and Navajo peoples. We pride ourselves in offering you more than just viewing our scenery - but we can do this too!

It's late March and the weather is warm, a bit windy and cloudy. Three of us piled into our jeep with our guide, Reginald Etsitty, and headed for the mouth of the canyon, only to find a wide wash full of rushing water. No worries. Off we went, driving up the wash in the water, left and right, avoiding holes... More

Mr Leon Skyhorse Thomas himself was our guide. Irene, Reginald, Henry and he (The Guides) were very knowledgeable about the area, history and legends of the Canyon De Chelly (pronounced Du Chey). We learned Navajo words, history and several religious beliefs. It was also a blast just riding back into the canyon though the rivers....mudding anyone!

Great guide for a half day trip up the two branches of the canyon. Saw several ruins and many pictographs. This place has an incredible history and the tour is a great way to see the interior of the canyon. My 10 year son and I walked out of the canyon up the White House Trail.

We opted for a three hour tour which was sufficient time for us. We were a group of four with a guide. The jeep was at full capacity. Our tour departed at 9 am and overnight temperatures were near freezing so the air was crisp. Recent rains resulted in higher levels of water on the canyon floor, however, our guide,... More

This is absolutely an area where you need to hire a guide to see anything up close. The rim drives are scenic but you cannot get close to any of the ruins without a guide and all wheel drive vehicle. Canyon de Chelly Tours was easy to book with and they paired us with Irene, which was perfect because we... More

Visited here on Dec. 10th, Reginald was our guide and talked most of the 3+ hour tour. Gave us a mix of history and stories of area. We were impressed with his knowledge and desire to learn more of area. Highlight was seeing the sun on the wall where the moon and sun phase was displayed and knowing the winter... More

We were very lucky to have Reginald as our guide for our morning 3-hour tour. The Canyon is spectacular and features many ancient dwellings in various states ruin. Reginald clearly has a passion for his work. He has extensively studied the history of the Canyon and the Navajo people as well as the flora and fauna of the area. He... More

Most excellent tour and trip, Irene was our tour guide thru canyon, most informative tour as she grew up there and has stayed there and raised a family and knows first hand the history. Our trip thru the monuments was great as well, great driver. The place was too great to describe accurately, but was thoroughly enjoyable.

Leona our guide was awesome, full of historic facts, stories, grace and charm! This trip is off-road, bring good walking shoes for short in and outs along the voyage. Of course bring water as always in the Navajo Nation. This trip is down in the canyon, so remember the sun drops fairly soon. Well worth your time and money.

We were picked up on time at the BW in Chinle by Percy, our guide. We then spent 4 very enjoyable hours touring the canyon and seeing incredible petroglyphs, hearing Native stories and history, in addition to personal stories of Percy's background and childhood. The canyon was very dry, so we were bounced around a bit going through the wash,... More
