Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York...

Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York City. Opened to the public in 1913, this historic train terminal is a world-famous landmark in Midtown. Its rich history is a story of immense wealth and great engineering. Grand Central is one of the busiest train stations in the world, with approximately 750,000 visitors every day. It is the home of Metro-North Railroad, a subway station, iconic restaurants, shops, and the world's most alluring Apple Store. Some of the highlights to see along your tour of Grand Central include the opal-faced clock, valued at $20 million, above the Information Booth, the Largest Tiffany Glass Clock in the World below the 48-foot, 1500-ton Transportation statue overlooking 42nd Street at Park Avenue, and the mystifying acoustics of the Whispering Gallery in front of the Oyster Bar and Restaurant. Audio and guided tours are available for those with a passion for history. More information regarding tours and ways to plan your visit can be found on the Grand Central Terminal website.

Magnificent architecture

Just stunning, the stone is so cleaned and beautiful. It's like it's from a completely bygone era when railways were a glamorous way to travel. The food concourse is great too

It really feels like you are throwing back time. A beautiful place where you can eat, shop and take trains to some places. If you want to learn a little bit more about the place, you should pick up a guided tour.

Worth a Visit to Grand Central Station even if not catching the subway, just to see this beautiful Building, especially comes alive at night with tourists taking photos.

Another must for NYC visitors. The building is gorgeous and so well maintained. Make sure you find the square area and look out for people talking into the corners l, give it a go! A quirky little bit of information for grand terminal stand opposite sides though to get the best effect.

Aside from the history- go and enjoy the food underground. Also- if you speak into the walls you can hear it on the opposite end.

Popped in on our way somewhere else. It's a beautiful place and well worth half an hour of your day. The grand central market was good, too- small but some great foodie outlets.

Grand Central was a little underwhelming. The architecture is pretty but give the food court a miss, it's not worth the walk. Worth a walk around though and a good cut through route.

We stopped here to grab lunch in the food court - lots of options and between us we had sushi, hot dogs, pasta, pizza and all was good though it was difficult to find a place to sit. No one was in the whispering gallery when we arrived so we had fun trying out all the corners outside the Oyster... More

This place is amazing! Do not miss it if you are in NYC. Go to the grand hall and just stop, and watch. Great Apple store to browse, then go into the depths to visit the colourful market, oyster bar and to sample some proper New York Cheese Cake.

Thank Tessa F

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
