Great way to learn the history and past of the lower part of Manhattan from a New Yo r k native. Lina knows the city like no one else and offers of history, trivia. And curiosities with equal measure. Highly recommended.

Lina was a veritable treasure trove of information, facts, stories, anecdotes. It felt like we were living a documentary as we walked through the streets of the village. While we were there in the present, Lina's extraordinary storytelling ability transported us into the lives of those who used to live in this fascinating, iconic neighbourhood. From John Wilkes Booth, Jimi... More

Lina was funny, personable knowledgeable and passionate. Her deep and breadth of knowledge was not only very impressive her ability to share it with the group in a smooth and interesting way made for a great experience. She intertwined political, historic, cultural and simply eclectic aspects of NYC, particularly 'The Village' to create a colorful mosaic. The 3 short hours... More

We had a group of 6 women, some were visitors and some residents of NY. It was a great way to learn more about lower Mantttan. Lina proved to be a very knowledgeable guide and we learned so much from her. We learned so many interesting facts and the history of the early days of the city. Can't wait to... More

Lina Viviano is unparalleled in her native-informed knowledge of New York City. She grew up in those streets, and she knows more than most. I would venture to say she knows more than William Helmreich who wrote a book about walking 6,000 miles in that city. I believe this because in a single afternoon, I think I walked 6,000 miles... Lina is a wonderful and entertaining tour guide. Our tour of Lower Manhattan was fun, entertaining, and a great learning experience. Lina knows little details about buildings and history of the neighborhood that make me look at my surrounding a little different now, when I walk around the city.

I went on a walking tour with Lina as part of an intimate group of mostly fellow NYers and was impressed by her knowledge, ability to simultaenously adapt to and anticipate our needs, as well as her expertise about NYs architecture, culture and history (and the interplay between the three). To make a long story short: Lina is smart, down-to-earth,... More

Lina is an expert in the culture, culinary life, and architecture of these neighborhoods. I've lived in NYC for 25 years, thought I had a good grasp of these 'hoods, but Lina really opened my eyes to the beauty, the curiosities, and the architectural footprint of the various immigrants who defined lower Manhattan. You will marvel at terrific building details,... More

The architectural tour of lower Manhattan with Lina is a combination of history, architecture, culture, curiosities, historical anecdotes, etc. and is easily understandable (we speak french). Lina is a perfect guide! She loves New York and knows how to share her passion. She made our day in New York very interesting, surprising and fun. Next time in New York we'll... More

Staying in TriBeCa

Neighbourhood Profile
TriBeCa
What’s in a name? In this case it is the unique title of “Triangle Below Canal Street” that became a popular nickname in the 1970s. An attractive neighbourhood filled with handsome lofts on the edge of the Financial District, this lovely slice of Manhattan offers plenty of fine dining experiences and art galleries. Plus, it’s home to the city’s most exciting film event, the Tribeca Film Festival, that takes place here every year. TriBeCa is a great place to take a leisurely stroll before stopping into one of the many local restaurants or bars for a satisfying meal and cocktail. You’ll see families out for an afternoon walk, and don’t be surprised to come up with the occasional celebrity sighting. With such a great vibe, many of the city’s most famous residents call this neighbourhood home.
