My wife, daughter and I did the tour of Brooklyn and Queens with Dave earlier this month. We had a fantastic day and cannot recommend the trip highly enough. Whilst the food is incredible it is just part of the experience. Dave provides a running commentary that is a great mix of culinary detail, history, politics and sociology. We loved the people we met and came away with a better understanding of the city and what makes it tick. Dave is a very attentive host and ensures everything is done at a pace to suit the party. If you are visiting New York then this tour should be top of your list of things to.

We had had to cancel our initial booking with FFD last year so were thrilled to be able to finally climb into the cab and get underway this year. We had amazing food, met truly interesting people and best of all had a whole day of interesting political, social, historical and cultural discourse from Dave! We headed from one end of Brooklyn to the other and also into Queens and saw things off the beaten track we would never have been able to otherwise. Dave also gave us great ideas and tips for where to go for the rest of our New York visit, many of which we tried and we were never disappointed. Don't think about booking Dave, just do it!

This was the highlight of our week in New York, Dave was knowledgeable about all things To do with New York and food. He kept us entertained in the car as we drive between fantastic eating establishments. As a family with 2 teenagers we all had a great time and we can't agree what our favourite food stop was because they were all so good. At the end of the day we felt as we had seen the real NYC . Thanks Dave, we'll be back again one day. In fact Dave even emailed us restaurants near our hotel. Book it, you won't regret it.

If you want to experience NewYork City from cannoli to pastrami then Dave is the only guy to call. His knowledge of the culture and history of each of the areas we visited was amazing. We sampled 13 different foods, each one more amazing than the next. Dave was very flexible in the agenda to make certain we sampled all the things we wanted, while also opening us up to new culinary encounters. Well done Dave!

Hands down, this was the best 5 hours of our 2 weeks in NYC. Dave was fantastic, from the minute we made contact 6 months ago, all the way through, and even contacted us after the tour to give us a few ideas of other places we might want to eat at while we were in town. Fantastic.
Dave's passion for great food is obvious, but so too is his passion for making sure his customers have a great time. Nothing was a problem. By the end of our 5 hours together, Dave felt like an old friend. We not only talked food, but also history, politics, a bit of architecture, we talked about what makes Australians and Americans so compatible - all in all a simply fantastic time.
My initial concern that I was fatter than Famous Fat Dave proved to be academic - he knows his food and, importantly, has a great personal connection with so many of the people.
We tallied up our 'bests' at the end of the day. Best arancini ever, best sandwich ever, best pastrami ever, best pizza ever, best Italian ice ever, and even though the Manhattan Special and the Egg Cream were firsts, I have no doubt they won't be bettered. Oh, and the best 5 hours you can spend in NYC.
Do it.

WOW! This was a highlight of our trip to NYC! Our family of 4, (2 children aged 11 and 16) went on a food tour with Dave.
Dave kindly took the time to find out if we had anything specific in mind that we wanted to try while in NYC, to see if he could accommodate it as part of the tour. He's easy to contact as Dave gets back to you via email quickly and efficiently.
He has fantastic knowledge of where some of the best food can be found. We travelled deep into the pockets of different neighbourhoods to experience their local food and culture. We visited places we would never find, or be weary to venture into, as tourists. But going with Dave was easy and safe. We had the best fried chicken in Harlem, the most delicious donuts at a Polish Bakery in Brooklyn, and the yummiest drink at a luncheonette run by Dominicans in Williamsburg. We also tried the best barbequed brisket we have tasted. The murder burger from a deli in the Bronx was pretty good too!
Dave was fabulous with our kids and he never rushed us at each stop. He was very generous with his food offerings – there was always enough to eat and more!! And because he knew we would strike traffic at certain times of the day, he checked with us at the beginning to see if we had any time constraints. We actually ended the tour nearly an hour and a bit longer than it was supposed to be! Who else would do this??
There are so many hidden gems Dave knows about, that his tours are even very popular with New Yorkers! On our tour, we were joined by a lovely couple from Queens, who added to our fabulous experience.
If you do anything in NYC, touring with Dave is a must. You won't be disappointed! We will definitely tour with Dave again. Thanks so much Dave for a superb day out eating!

Dave did it again! I went on a tour with Dave years ago with my cousins. We concentrated on Italian places that time and had a great time. My poor husband, back in California, heard all about it and felt very left out. On June 12th, he finally got his turn.
It was quite hot then and Dave asked the night before if we would like to go in a van rather than the Checker. He thought we might be more comfortable in a newer vehicle with stronger air conditioning. Nope....we're purists and wanted the Checker experience. What fun! We drove to Brooklyn and Coney Island with windows down and big grins on our faces. We listened to Dave's wonderful stories, were greeted like old friends in delis and roast beef shops and ate and ate and ate. I asked for pickles and got great pickles. I asked for something Polish or Russian and tasted the best blintz I've ever had. Dave took us to places most New Yorkers have probably never even heard of and he really knows his stuff!
You need to do this! It's the best tour of all time!
I'll go again, too. My next review will be called THE BEST EVER X 3.

We went on a northern Brooklyn, Long Island City, City Island, South Bronx and Harlem food tour a couple of days ago and it was as wonderful as we anticipated. My husband and I live in NYC and this is our second tour with Dave (as per my husband's birthday requests). Once again, Dave introduced us to places we never knew existed. Our favorites were the cream filled doughnuts from Peter Pan Pastry Shop in Brooklyn and the burnt ends from John Brown in Long Island City, but the entire experience was excellent. Dave knows NYC inside out and is an excellent tour guide all round. We joined a lovely family from New Zealand and recommend touring with people you've never met before. It just adds another layer of fun to the day. Great experience and will likely be doing tour #3 for a future birthday.

My wife and I joined 3 others (strangers at first, friends at the end) for a driving tour. We wanted to get off Manhattan, and boy did we ever!
Started off with a little taste of genuine NYC meat (lower Manhattan), before heading off on the best tour of anywhere I've been in a long, long time.
The format was simple, and brilliant. Drive a bit, eat a bit, drive some more, eat some more. Dave kept up a non-stop conversation/history lesson. We wanted pizza - he took us to a pizza place in an Italian neighborhood; we wanted egg cream - off to Coney Island. Tacos? A surf shop in Rockaway. Dave knew people everywhere we went, and loads of history of the places we visited/went past/drove through.
The tour prices look expensive, but it was well worth it. A great time! Thanks Dave!

How much does the food tour cost?

It depends on if you do the riding tour, or the walking tour. The riding tour is $US300 per person for the day. If you walk, then the price drops in half to $US150 per person. Dave pays for all the food. Worth every penny.
