Authentic Experiences to the heart of New York City! Since 1997 we have been on the front lines of the underground New York City jazz scene - taking small groups down into the basements and alleyways where live jazz still thrives in neighborhood nightclubs from Harlem to Greenwich Village. Legendary players and clubs as well.

All live music and transportation costs are included in the tour price. Our jazz tours take place in Manhattan for the most part, but private tours to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx can be arranged.

Our goal is to offer the most intimate, small group tours available to Harlem and Greenwich Village neighborhood nightclubs and juke joints. We also provide insight into the Big Apple jazz scene as it has evolved over the past hundred years.

Consider hiring Gordon Polatnick to take you on a private tour throughout the city during the day or night to experience the city's many intriguing neighborhoods at your pace and focusing on your interests.

With NYC being the last city of our west coast to east coast holiday, aka music odessy, we searched for a high note to finish on. Gordon's Harlem Juke Joint tour was it! He is a great tour guide. We had a small group and the tour was tailored to suit our collective interests. The knowledge and history Gordon has... More

A wonderful jazz tour full of great music, tasty food and a lovely ambiance. Amanda learned us a lot about the history of jazz and she took us to places in Harlem where jazz started. After the historical tour we went to the last club, where we listened to some wonderful jazz. Herbie Hancock once said: "Jazz is about being... More

Our tour started with Amanda Humes picking us up and taking us to Harlem where she took us to an historical site to tell us about the history of Harlem Jazz and then off we went to Minton's and then to Paris Blues. Both very different and we were able to not only listen to some amazing music, but we... More

Six years ago my wife and I took the juke joints of Harlem tour. It was great so we decided to set up a private similar tour on our return visit to NYC. Gordon did another great job. We enjoy his company and expertise.

Great music, great food, great company! Amanda is unstoppable. Taking you from one place to other. Teaching jazz history and making you feel comfortable when you enter venues you never would have found by yourself. We got a chance to listen to fresh new talents and old school celebrities. A 5 hour + tour of Harlem and the jazz connection. Amanda joined us then we traveled together by subway to 135th street--Swing street. As we walked she pointed out all the famous former spots for local jazz, gave a history lesson on prohibition, segregation and the coming of jazz. We visited 2 venues-one a tiny, very local place wtih... More

Amazing Amanda gives a Harlem jazz and history tour like no other tour you've ever been on. Wear comfortable shoes! This is a comprehensive tour with lots of walking and intros to small jazz spots you could never find on your own. If you play jazz, bring your instrument. You might get to be a part of an authentic Harlem... More

This was one incredible night that I will always remember. Our guide, Amanda, was super fun, personable, and knowledgeable,. I felt like a good friend was giving us an insider's experience of jazz in Harlem. She knew well the musicians and proprietors at the two live venues, allowing me an opportunity to sit in with the band at both! I was... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
