The Neue Gallery, housed in the William Starr Miller House, a magnificent beaux-arts mansion, is much more than a “gallery;” a museum would be a better description. Housing Austrian and German art, it has a superb collection of Gustav Klimt art, including “Woman in Gold.” The free audio, which provides history and commentary, increases the understanding and enjoyment of many... About a 20 min. wait which is not unusual. Got there 1 hr. after opening and they ran out of audio guides. Spent 2 hrs.there, leisurely covering the beautiful collection of Klimpts and others of same era. Also some gorgeous reproductions of fashion of the times.

A lovely display of pieces from early twentieth century - 1910s-1930s. I enjoyed the Klimt exhibit and apart from the larger than life portraits, I especially liked the room of his sketches; sometimes just pencil, sometimes with white crayon (the women in kimono was my personal favourite). It was cool to see the layers that go into producing such wonderful... More

Me and my wife went to see the galerie after having seen the Movie with Ryan Reynolds and Helen Mirren. Everything perfect except the UNPOLITNESS of the people at the door and security checks. Obliged to trash water and also an empty bottle of NY Yankees bought as souvenir while few steps away we have been obliged to leave the... More

I arrived at 1:30pm on a very cold Monday afternoon. No line. I immediately entered the museum, bought my ticket, and checked my coat, hat and gloves. Traveling in January is exhausting and such a chore. I spend 2 hours here marveling at the art. It was not crowded so I was able to sit, linger, and enjoy these beautiful... More

We arrived at the gallery at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. It was cold and wet and the city was pretty empty, so we walked right in. I have to agree with previous reviews. The staff are not very friendly. You can do your job and enforce the rules of the gallery without acting like a prison guard. There were probably... More

I spent over 3 hours in the Neue Galerie mostly staring at Gustav Klimt's portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (the Woman in Gold), It is a masterpiece. Also, for the first time in a decade, his other portrait of her is there. The contrast between the two is startling.I went at about 11:15 and had a 5 minute wait. I... More

I stood in line (40 minutes) longer than the time necessary to see the collection (30 minutes) . People lied to jump the line by saying that they are just going to the Cafe, and once inside the lobby they just walk to the front desk and purchase a ticket. As for the admission $20 it's just not worth the... More

The special exhibition this time focused on several portraits of women by Klimt, with the famous "Woman in Gold," one of two portraits of Adele Bloch-Bauer (the other portrait of her is also on view), as the centrepiece. This is a dazzling exhibition! On the third floor there are a number, probably too many in my view, of works from... More

I discovered this museum after watching a documentary on Gustav Klimt. If you are a fan of his work (or even just the Woman in Gold), you'll love it! It gets crowded, so expect to wait in line for a bit, but it's worth it. I recommend starting on the top floor and working your way down. Also, get the... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
