We arrived an hour before opening to be sure we could get in first thing. There was a long line behind us before the doors opened. We had seen the movie, "Woman in Gold," and wanted to see the real painting. Wow, it was beautiful! So were several other paintings.

I like to have the option to enter and cross house part of NY great history. I don't like meet shouting people lacking of respect to art and property, it happens when you can pay what you wish to visit, and I think it should be somehow filtered. Thanks for letting us in!

Prior to a stop at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna last fall, and the movie "Woman in Gold," our knowledge of the work of Gustav Klimt was limited to memories of the reproductions in the Redwood Room in the the Clift Hotel in San Francisco. Klimt is well represented at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, but we knew from the... More

Exaggeration? Possibly but having traveled extensively I find the Neue to be our favorite stop. It has everything you could want. A tight artistic focus, exceptionally well done exhibits, stunning cafe and a boutique gift shop with exclusive items. So the focus is limited to early 20thC German/Austrian art. Klimt, Schiele, Bauhaus, Blaue Reiter. All the monumental movements that make... More

I went just to view the Gustavito Klimt paintings. The portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer was one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever seen. Worth the visit to this museum if only to see that one piece. The other Klimt are a bonus. Also enjoyed the decorative arts exhibits from the early 20th century. Stunning silver and furniture.

We waited on line about 20 minutes to see this gallery on a Sunday morning. We should have purchased tickets in advance. The permanent collection (Klimt and his "Woman in Gold") is on the 2nd floor and she is spectacular -- the headphones helped put things into context. The 3rd floor's exhibit seems to rotate and the one we saw... More

This museum is pricey for its size. It has a charming but expensive cafe and a gift shop with expensive trinkets that are mostly tasteful Some of the shows are really excellent, but not much of the museum's collection is usually on view. Emphasis is on Vienna Secession and German expressionism from late 19th and early 20th century.

Excellent little museum offering the incomparable and widely representative collection of the three greatest Austrian artists of the early XXth century, Gustav Klimt, his younger compatriot (of the then Austrian-Hungarian empire) Oskar Kokoshka, and the youngest among them, Egon Schiele. The truth be mentioned that the works of Schiele presented in the Neue Gallery are by far not the best... More

I'm a bit embarassed to say this is my 1st time at this beautifull museum, after having lived a decade in the city. Great little private museum of German and Austrian art whose crown jewel, the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I by Gustav Klimt, is everything you hope it would be.

We are back in the US after having spent nearly two years living in Vienna. There we often visited the Belvedere to enjoy its stunning collection of paintings by Gustav Klimt, whose work we greatly admired. But there are Klimt paintings, including the masterpiece "Woman in Gold," that can only be seen here, for reasons having to do with the... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
