Like the Frick an oasis in the City and a treasure that holds many surprises. Whenever we're in the neighborhood we return for the Klimpt portrait. Special exhibits are always well curated.

It's a lovely little museum with a lovely café. It seems just to be in Vienna. The art is beautiful, the location great. Come a bit before opening so you avoid the crowd and you can have a very good coffee or breakfast at the café.

We went to see the Golden Woman paintings by Klimpt. Completely fabulous selection of his works and the building itself is so lovely. We had a GREAT lunch in one of the two cafes - the one in the basement. A glass of French champagne, and the goulash soup - had a chocolate souffle type dessert. Beautiful gift shop, too.

If you have missed the movie, “The Woman in Gold,” I would recommend you search it out, then visit the Neue Galerie to see the 1907 portrait of “Adele Bloch-Bauer for which the movie is about. Stunning. BUT...the museum itself is also stunning, with much more than the one amazing painting by Gustav Klimt. It is full of wondrous German... More

This is a delightful spot. A good size for an art museum as it did not overwhelm. The Klimt exhibit was our reason for going. The "Woman in Gold" and its sister painting of Adele Bloch-Bauer were fabulous. It was excellent seeing so many Klimt sketches as well which is not common in larger art museums. Definitely worth a visit... More

We went when the Lady in Gold movie was out so you can imagine it was mobbed. However, the wait was worth it, you come up the stairs, turn the corner and there is the painting!! just magnificent. Two places to eat..one formal with lines to get and a lovely cafe with equally good food downstairs.

I've been waiting to visit until my youngest turned 12. Children under 12 are not admitted. I was drawn by Klimt, my fave, whose artwork (sketches and paintings) was featured. Expensive for the size, although they accepted a AAA card for discount. The Klimts were magnificent! This exhibit runs through 1/16/17.

We have always loved Klimt's paintings and we watched The Lady in Gold the other day. Looked up where the painting was now and it is on 5th Avenue! So we had to go! And to top it off there is currently a whole load of other Klimt paintings there on display. You must must go. Amazing? Ask for the... More

If you are a fan of angsty German art, this is your place. It's a beautiful gallery, intimate and a collection just big enough to interest without overwhelming. These Germans, boy. They've got some deep rooted angst, I tell you. Not one beautiful portrait in the whole permanent collection, just grotesque, grimacing, tortured figures. This is not a criticism mind... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
