About
Chelsea Market is a world-famous food hall in the heart of New York City's Meatpacking District. Commonly featured in walking and food tours, the market has an array of dining options that draw both locals and travelers. Set aside a couple of hours to conquer the corridors of this sprawling indoor marketplace. Many travelers load up on fresh produce, prime cuts of meat, artisanal cheeses, and even imported Italian dry goods. For more elbow room, visit either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Plus, keep a lookout for delicious free samples and the quaint bookstore on site. – Tripadvisor

Neighbourhood: Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighbourhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighbourhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighbourhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.

Cool shops and so many yummy food options
So so many food options in market and some beautiful and very unique craft shops. Very busy for a good reason, so some patience required. Might help to have an idea of which food places you’re aiming for as it’s an avenue long and some shops could be missed. Handy covered seating just outside on north and south sides.

Lots of quirky shops & restaurant in reconditioned Manhattan food warehouse
The Chelsea Market. has lots of quirky shops & restaurant in a reconditioned Manhattan Meatpacking District food warehouse. The multiple floors have lots of interesting shops to see, but note that the interior can be crowded on busy weekends. Visiting on a weekday may be a better option.

    This place is AWESOME!
I went to The Sherri Show and decided to enjoy New York. I was so so happy finding this place. It’s a must do if you’re in the area. Make sure you have funds to shop because you will have a hard time no going bananas. I’m going back again soon!! ♥️

Nice, but not that big and pretty packed
We went for lunch on a Saturday while it was raining outside - so pretty much worst case scenario, and it was indeed very full. Good mix of food and merchandise stores, but not a huge selection, after ca. half an hour you've seen everything. We liked the restaurant we chose for lunch, Friedman's, one of the few sit-down places with table service.

    As seen on Food Network
If you’re a foody and want to go where the food network stars have gone it is a fun stop. Be prepared to wait in line for the food of your choice. There are a few non food related stores. If you’re staying in Manhattan or near time square a taxi or Uber is a must. We walked it. Fun to see the city by foot but in June a rather hot trip

    Amazing foodie spot
Brilliant food hall built within an old biscuit factory where Oreo’s were first invented. Huge variety of different foods such as bagels, tacos, Mediterranean, ice creams, cocktails, Japanese, doughnuts, and many more. We enjoyed the black seed bagels and los tacos #1 which are both highly rated places to eat in the area. Would definitely recommend for a lunch - get there as soon as it opens as some places build long queues quite quick.

    Great food!
I cannot believe we have never done this, it was amazing! A collection of shops and food that everyone you bring will enjoy and right next to the high line! Fantastic places to eat! Highly recommend the tacos! The way to eat when visiting the city in my opinion.

    Former Nabisco Factory
For decades, I passed the vast National Biscuit Factory and wondered what could be done with that considerable property. Back then, it was not the most desirable area. Now, it is a massive market with small food establishments and shops. Definitely a good use. great for tourists as everything you can imagine eating is there. Some interesting shops too. Dining outside on the ground level or up be the Highline.

Worth a Visit for the Architectural History Alone
Lovely architecture / renovation - worth it just to see the building... and that's free. It was worth getting inside for an hour or so just to get out of the heat and humidity! After that you can spend as much or as little as you want in the plentiful shops and restaurants. Did buy a few bits and pieces and got a drink from a cafe. but that was it, wasn't an expensive trip. Walked down from Hudsons Yard via the High Line to get there - recommend that route as it was a pleasant stroll

    Great Food Selections
Every kind of food imaginable offered here. We enjoyed delicious Taiwanese noodle soup and a beer. Lots of options for even the pickiest of eaters. And there's a nice outdoor space available to sit and take your time eating while people watching, The building itself is also amazing to look at. Some may say it's a tourist trap but see it for what it is - a beautiful building full of food options.

Chelsea Market is an indoor space with a number of food court type of restaurants, bakeries, and shops. It is rather small – you can quickly walk through the entire market, but it is worth a stop inside if you are visiting the Highline. But if you are not in the area, this is not worth a separate stop.

We visited Chelsea Market mid morning, some shops and restaurants were open but others were getting ready to open at 11am and 12pm. There is a nice mix of specially shops, restaurants serving a range of food and a couple of bars. We had a good hour wandering around the shops and had a nice NYC beer in one of the restaurants. There are toilets on the basement floor but they were very busy.

We went for brunch. The choice was fantastic, the atmosphere, the smells and displays made us so hungry. We had Tacos and Quescadillas at Los Tacos No1. This was so tasty. We then went for a walk on the Little Island park. Then we went to the Lobster Place. The best seafood I have ever seen. We tried oysters, which we have never enjoyed, and these were brilliant, and no need to mask with tabasco or lemon juice.

Chelsea Market is more of an upscale food court than a market. It does offer a wide range of dining options under one roof. At the same time, you are in a city that also offers a wide range of options around almost every corner. Chelsea Market is extremely popular with tourists and always crowded.

Good place to dine and shop around. Really like the maker space with local artists. There is something for everyone. A good place to stop before or after walking the High Line.

We had a wonderful afternoon at Chelsea Market last week. We walked down the High Line and had a late lunch at Chote Miya (loved the pani pori; butter chicken was a little spicer then we’re used to). Popped into a few shops and really enjoyed the Artists and Flea Market near the High Line entrance. We bought some of our favorite souvenirs there.

I recommend visiting the market. Its a introduction to many different types of products and foods. Only go when you are hungry and want to eat. The vendors that are there are excellent too. But it’s mostly about food! I wouldn’t go if I just had a day or two in the city, but it would definitely be on the “third day” itinerary.

The Chelsea Market is a great mall with many restaurants and coffee shops. You can also find delicious Mexican tacos, and order three for each one, you’ll love it.

Great market! Lots to look at. I ate at Eat Offbeat and am so glad I did as they had a delicious range of GF and DF food and very welcoming and friendly staff. I bought some chocolate and orange GF and DF halva from Seed + Mill which was extremely moreish. Yum! I wanted to try the chocolates at Li-Lac Chocolates however they dont stock any DF options unfortunately. So pleased I visited this market! Highly recommend!
