Never going back again, never recommending it to anyone. Brutish, no thuggish, behavior at the door.

At a time when part of our culture has shifted from the authentic to the superficial, The Village Vanguard remains the ideal jazz club environment. Reasonably priced, great sound and a integral part of jazz history. As a New Yorker and a jazz fan, it's been my primary spot for great music for over 40 years.

Been there many times, alone and with friends. Always a great musical evening. One of the best places in NY for live jazz while you enjoy a beer or a scotch. It doesn't matter whether you seat right in front or in the back, there are no bad seats. Long live the Vanguard.

I brought my wife and son to the VV to hear the Vanguard Orch on Monday night. What a terrific band. Get your tickets early for the best seating. And sit up close to the band for the full experience !!!

During a whirlwind 36 hour trip to NYC, we made the decision to go the Village Vanguard to hear Kenny Barron. My 17 year old daughter has always been a casual jazz fan, but this visit strengthened her interest and she "got" the live experience...that thrill of jazz in action. The weight of the history of the Vanguard is palpable.... More

Long way to go to get the briefest of visits courtesy of the doorman who then sent us to Smalls where we could actually get in and have a drink.

Totally worth the line! Hands down it was the best house band I have ever heard. We went to the late show and I can't come up with enough good things to say. Prices are great. One drink minimum with your $30 ticket. They don't serve food so you have to eat before hand but the band was so good... More

The holly grail of Jazz. Place with soul and best jazz program. A must visit. I spent wounderful hours there with iconic Barry Harris trio playing smooth jazz rhythms...

When you go to a lIve music venue you expect music with attitude. You do not expect service with attitude. On arrival the door staff were rude and treated me like I was an unwanted nuisance rather than a welcome customer. There is so much choice for live jazz in New York there is no need to go here again... More

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
