Felt like I was back in the Seventies!

Great place! That said, you walk in and it feels like so many places we used to hit in the Seventies. People jamming in the back room, crowd milling around talking to each other... read more

I'd heard about this bar from my sister when she lived in NY. I went there with a group of friends on a Sunday night (probably not the night to visit a place like this!). The guy who greeted us and checked out IDs was the friendliest character you could meet. He then disappeared. The inside of the bar was... More

Great place! That said, you walk in and it feels like so many places we used to hit in the Seventies. People jamming in the back room, crowd milling around talking to each other. Music promoter talking to bands. Felt great. Drinks were good, not overly crowded. We were late night crawling and had hit Bitter End just wrapping up... More

Stopped by for a couple of drinks. Place was busy, bar staff friendly and a punk/rockabilly playing in the back room. Cool selection of cocktails - choose to have your drink in a tiki mug or regular glass, then either keep your mug as a souvenir or return it for a $6 refund. And just a reminder to take ID... More

Great dive tiki bar, with DJ in front and live music in the back. Must try the German Chocolate Cake drink! Incredible drink you won't be able to stop thinking about. Important note: bar only accepts CASH

Every time I'm in NYC, I go to Otto's at least once, if not several times. I love it! Supercool bar with vintage tiki decor. Drinks are awesome!! Try a frozen pina colada. It's just good and not at all like sickeningly sweet versions I've had elsewhere. Then there is the music!!! A great mix of punk, rockabilly, vintage surf... More

I went to see one of the last Tiki Bars in NYC on a Saturday afternoon. After a long hot hike from the bus station (I skipped the subways) it was great to get a cold tropical cocktail in a tiki mug. The place was busy which surprised me as the neighborhood was quite. The bartender was great and helped... More

Strong cocktails in great glasses that you can keep for an extra $5, cool decor, great music and live bands on a Sunday. One of my favourite bars in New York.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
