We went on a Monday night so was quiet enough but the musicians were great - well worth a trip and the 2 drinks minimum was never mentioned to us. You should definitely visit this place you never know who you might meet!

As a NY first time visitor I wanted to try one of the famous historical jazz bars. Visited Arthur's on a quiet Sunday night. The place was half empty and there was a jazz band playing. Unfortunately the experience was half spoiled by the pressure to spend and tip! There are loads of Signs on the walls highlighting the 2... More

You're in NYC, nothing is cheap, so I wasn't surprised by the prices in this gem of a tavern. There's no cover charge to hear excellent musicians, and the barmaid was great company. There's a 2 drink minimum per person during a set, and credit cards aren't taken - cash only. There's a great atmosphere here, the place was at... More

Yes, it's cash only and the drinks aren't cheap but who cares when the live free music is absolutely fantastic? We heard Eri Yamamoto's trio-three excellent musicians with great acoustics. It's very easy to reach Which is another advantage (just 1 minute from a 1 subway station). Highly recommended.

This place is terrible, $7 for a bottle of bud, the music was bad and the staff were even worse. They enforce a 2 drink minimum like everyone has money to throw around. We entered asking when the music started, we were told 5 minutes, didn't start for 40 minutes...go to the musical theatre bar next door, you'll have a... More

We are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your experience at Arthur's Tavern. Our club does not have a cover charge or admission fee to hear live music seven nights a week. We therefore have a two drink minimum, per person, per musical set, which can be up to two hours. Our prices are very competitive. If you waited... More

Avoid this place. Read on to hear an in incredible story. We visited on 24th March during a visit to New York, first time, to meet our son who works there. We were in a local restaurant, saw this bar and it looked good. We were told two drinks minimum which is reasonable as there is no cover charge. The... More

We had one of the best dates in Arthur's Tavern. That night played an amazing bend called AJ Sharp's band and they were mind blowing...I wish I could go back once again.

Just returned from partial evening at Arthurs. This place is so refreshing, you don't have to go on line to get tickets, and the music was genuinely played by working musicians. The drink prices were reasonable, and I would recommend this spot for a relaxing evening after dinner.

Old tavern, cash only, band passed the jar for tips in between sets. I was looking for a blues/jazz bar that didn't charge a cover. This place is perfect, the music was great, the atmosphere relaxing.

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
