    Old School Greatness
We had an amazing lunch just from the Zabar's takeout choices. We also went to the Zabar's Cafe next door, which has similar takeout along with coffee, danishes, drinks, etc., all at surprisingly reasonable prices. If you want some of the best take-out food in NYC, this is the place.

A friendly place with a selection good enough to keep going back
I came across Zabar's on a self guided walking tour of the Upper West side of Manhattan. I was a little hestitant to try it at first, as I was still reeling from a less than impressive visit to Katz's delicatessen a few weeks ago. Was Zabar's going to be another "family run" tourist trap? I am delighted to report that it is not. It feels like a real place intent on serving delicious food to local people at local(ish) prices. I tried the world famous Nova and was not dissapointed. Worth a try for anyone in the area!

Delicious salmon bagel and matzo soup.
You would be amiss if you went to NYC and didn’t stop at Zabar’s. Go for the bagel with salmon and while you’re there, take some to take home. The selection is amazing. I was mesmerized by how they cut the salmon to order and their selection of cheese. Spectacular.

    A lovely experience
Visited here after many years. Great selection of deli items and iconic institution. Had some great coffee and a sweet treat in the cafe. Wandered the deli afterwards to get some take home salads and some branded gifts for people at home. Loved how well patronised the shop was by locals. Would recommend a visit if you like good coffee and yummy deli products. Was surprised at the amount of pork products and stupidly assumed the deli catered mainly to a Jewish palate.

Now, I was deeply impressed by the selection of foods not otherwise easily found at your average grocery, deli or specialized supermarket. The selection of oils and vinegars, smoked fish, coffee, jams and cheeses was quite impressive. However, I am not easily impressed by dirty floors, rude customer service, and even less impressed by the water dripping from the ceiling. Each of these elements individually could be attributed to bad weather, bad timing or bad luck but together they were to me a signal of "we don't care, we have got plenty of customers anyway" kind of attitude. Not sure I'd come back for more of the same. Especially given that I can find a comparable selection of authentic produce (without the air quotes) at places like Eataly in a much nicer surroundings.

Such a cool store. Has plenty of non-perishable items to take home. I got the black and white cookies, amazing. Also got some cinnamon and apricot items as well. Coffee smelled amazing but did not get any. Cool NYC experience

Ordered online for my elderly parents.
Spent over $200 dollars and never shipped. 6 phone calls and absolutely no response. Definitely consider never purchasing from this store. To be honest it's not surprising.

It was great to finally sample Zabar's in person rather than just by mail order. It's the best for classic bagel flavors, toppings, pickles, and coffee.

Always crowded. Always good food. FUN shopping in New York City. Small deli. Take out only. Need to say more so they will except the review. So more.

I ordered a babka online when I received an email that Zabar's had a buy one get one free sale. I have been a long time customer. The ordering was so confusing that I thought I had ordered two chocolate babkas. When one arrived, I called and told them what had happened and asked for one chocolate babka to be sent to me. I was told that the special had run out and that I should have called them at the time of ordering if I was confused. I asked why I would go to the trouble of calling and asking for another chocolate babka if I didn't expect two to be sent to me. They simply didn't care nor did they care that they lost my business for the future. Terrible customer service.

Always a pleasure to eat here. The bagels and salmon are amazing. No trip to NYC is complete without a trip to Zabars.

Don’t miss the Babka, I prefer it cold to warmed.
