Lower Manhattan is more business oriented but it still has its own charm in that there are historical sites to visit related to the Revolutionary War such as Fraunces Tavern, Federal Hall where George Washington was inaugurated and then there are other historical sites such as South Street Seaport Museum and much more.

Lower Manhattan has so much to see and do, I would highly recommend taking the time to explore it while in NYC. By foot you can see so much like the One World Trade Center and Memorial, Brookfield Place, Battery Park and so much more. By taking a ferry out in the harbor you get to see the skyline of... More

So much going on in this area, you need more than a day to try to see some of the sights. Easy to get to via subway, and very walkable. Occulus/Brookfield Mall/Freedom Tower/Pearl Street area and so on

Lower Manhattan is New York urbanity at its best. I loved the walk from Greenwich through the neighborhoods of lower Manhattan, SoHo, Tribeca, Battery Park City. So many good eateries down here and so much to see if you are a people watcher.

This is the old part of the City. Walk around the historic financial district where the streets are laid out from Dutch times. Visit Bowling Green. Then go to Battery Park and see Castle Clinton. Walk over to the 9/11 memorial. Then hop aboard the Staten Island Ferry for the amazing views. All of this is FREE.

My friend was in from Vermont visiting her sister from NJ and I suggested we meet down in the Battery Park area. We had brunch at the Merchants River House which is right on the water. We walked on the Promenade which has a view of Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and you can see the Liberty Center in... More

We ended up biking down here to go to the Chelsea Market and the Highline and some little shop with cookie dough. We ended up at a bar and walking around. This area is where it's at. If you're looking to get away from the tourist and over priced b.s you need to find yourself here. There are tons of... More

Staying in SoHo

Neighbourhood Profile
SoHo
Once the artistic hub of New York City, SoHo (South of Houston) is now one of the premiere shopping destinations in the world. Housing everything from the most popular luxury brands to swank boutiques you won’t find anywhere else, this is a sophisticated shopper’s dream come true. Broadway teems with big-name stores and people during the day, while Prince and Spring Streets are the other main drags to explore by foot. Take a detour down the quieter side streets to see the real star of the district –majestic cast-iron architecture everywhere you look. What were once warehouses and art studios are now meticulously restored loft buildings favored by many of New York’s celebrities, making SoHo one of the trendiest addresses in the city. The pretty streets of Nolita (North of Little Italy) offer a more sedate vibe, with plenty of tiny boutiques and hip restaurants to seek out.
