The Helmsley Building sits across the infamous Park Avenue in NY. Beautiful clock above the road that the cars pass through. Looks amazing but I suspect dated inside.

Just happened to be crossing Park Avenue and there it was. The avenue runs underneath the building. While that raises security concerns, it's rather unique.

Another New York Landmark. Very nice building and very unique architecture and tunnels on the ground floor.

Each time I'm on Park Avenue near Grand Central Station, I like to simply stand for a while and admire this marvelous Beaux-Arts-style building. Though it first opened in 1929 to house the Central Railroad Company. the building remains in beautiful condition, thanks to a 2010 renovation. Exterior features include a clock framed by sculptures above the entrance and a pyramidal roof with cupola. But the most distinctive details are two tunnels reserved for vehicular traffic below it, one for uptown and the other for downtown traffic. There are also two street level arcades for pedestrian traffic, one of which I have walked through. That is the closest I could get to the building, because it is not open to the public.

The 535-foot-tall, 34-story structure has had a series of owners throughout the years. It holds the name Helmsley because it was once owned by Helmsley-Spear, which stipulated that the name could not be changed again when that company sold the property. RXR Realty currently owns the building.

During my recent New York stay, I enjoyed looking at the building at night from my hotel's 27th-floor rooftop terrace. It was beautifully lit in blue.

We passed this building on a recent walking tour of Manhattan, it is somewhat unique for having vehicle tunnels running through the lower floors of the Building

Besides being a beautiful skyscraper in its own right, the Helmsley Building is a remarkable feat of engineering because Park Avenue splits into two tunnels and drives THROUGH the ground level of the building. You can also take a pedestrian path which crosses through a tunnel the same way. Extremely convenient location (can walk up affluent Park Avenue or down to 42nd Street to see the Chrysler Building and other historic attractions). Check it out!! (Note, you cannot enter the building as a tourist, other than the pedestrian tunnel)

One of my favorites in the city. This building is beautiful and has a lot of history. Night or day, it's a beautiful building. Make sure to read it's history and see who the owners have been thru the years!
