About
Founded in 1959, the El Paso Museum of Art was born from a need to house a significant donation of European Baroque and Renaissance works to the City of El Paso by the Samuel Kress Foundation. This collection encompasses major works by Botticelli, Canaletto, van Dyck, Zurbarán, and Artemisia Gentileschi, among other Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance masters. Over time, this seed collection grew to include over 7000 works. In 1998, EPMA moved to its current location at the heart of El Paso’s Downtown Arts District, less than a mile from the bridge to Juárez. Today, EPMA continues to collect, preserve, interpret, and exhibit works of art that support and illuminate the Museum’s permanent collection of American, European, and Mexican art.

An interesting blend of old and new art. They are setting up for a temporary exhibit of art inspired by Dante’s Inferno. The permanent collection is not large but spans hundreds of years. It is a clean and quiet place with plenty of seating to rest and enjoy the art.

Outstanding museum, must see to appreciate, set your own pace. OK to take pictures (no flash allowed) Don't forget the children's area even if you don't have children with you. Spotless restroom's. A bit pricey but unique gift shop.

My wife and I recently visited this wonderful museum and experienced the eclectic and diverse collection of paintings, sculptures, and photographs. Local artists were featured as well as European masters. We took our time discovering each space to appreciate the creativity and talents of each artists. The museum has a graceful flow and well worth a visit should you find yourself in El Paso.

We attend quite a few exhibits at the Museum, and now are members since we like to visit. The exhibits are well managed and interesting. It is obvious that the Board of Directors and Curators care deeply about both their Museum and their audience.

Not much to appreciate. We went to pass the time. Very small museum but a great place to cool off! There is no admission fee but they welcome donations. Very clean and the gift shop offers nice items.

We were visiting from Tucson, AZ, which is near Mexico and border issues are very important in our city (pro and con), There is a wonderful one-man show by Don Coen about migrants . The show reveals them as hard-working human beings with unique character expressions. The huge photo/acrylic mixed media paintings were heartwarming and poignant.
The museum is well worth seeing.

The museum had an excellent mixture of art from across time. I didn't expect to see a Canaletto or Stuart's portrait of George Washington as well as several other well known artists. "The Migrant Series" by Don Coen was very impressive. His use of sprayed acrylic over a photo provided a very unique viewing experience. Incredible accuracy from a distance and an abstract up close.

The permanent exhibits were a bit disjointed and they don't display a lot of information about their artists or the individual works of art. My trip was not well timed as they were changing one of the major exhibit spaces over.
The gift shop was quite good and the lady running it is very knowledgeable, prices were reasonable.

Not quite as small as some have described. Took us about an hour to look at the permanent collection. It was okay, probably as good as you'd expect to see in El Paso. The special exhibits were clearly visible from the hall outside, but you'd have to pay $10 to look up close. Not a good investment.
Tip: There is meter parking behind the museum for only $0.75/hour. Be sure you put in enough. Nailing people on expired meters is one of El Paso's major sources of revenue: $25 fine. Trust me.
Tip: The ladies in the gift shop have maps of downtown El Paso and know everything there is to know about the area and can communicate this with great clarity and accuracy.
Tip: Take a look into the lobby of the hotel right beside. Beautiful Tiffany ceiling.

Small. Free. Well-done. Several interactive exhibits, a wonderful European collection, and modern art unique to the borderland.

Hi Lisa, the El Paso Museum of Art is free to the public although they occasionally have exhibitions that have a small fee. The museum is open Tuesday - Sunday and on Thursday they have extended hours to 9pm.
