I love visiting places of historic significance; this being a landmark on the California Trail. Though I did not camp, the site seemed well suited for this activity with facilities on site. It was peaceful and majestic. A must visit for outdoor lovers who like peaceful places.

When we visit the City of Rocks , we always spend one of our days at Castle Rocks State Park. The kids love the freedom to climb and explore all over the place. I like to sit in the shade and have some peace, rest and quiet for a while. They are adding new features all the time, so check... More

Great campground, with paved interior road, paved camping sites, and water and 50 amp electrical services at each site. We came here without reservations on a weekend, but still found a fine campsite available. The unincorporated town of Almo Idaho is close by, with a service station (gasoline and diesel fuels), a small selection of groceries, and a nice restaurant... More

I've been to lots of places with rocks like this, and have become something of an amateur boulderer, but the quality of the rock here is so rough, I felt like I could almost walk up walls with nothing but good tennis shoes!

We didn't have time to engage in the #1 activity of Rock Climbing, but did take the around-the-rock trail. Pretty scenery and an exciting walking tour; not for the poorly conditioned!

Breathtaking beauty, just a couple miles off the highway. We went to use the new archery course (18 targets), nestled at the base of Castle Rocks. It's insanely beautiful there. Absolutely pristine and serene.

Accommodations: We stayed in what is inexplicably called "The Lodge", which is actually a three-bedroom house on the edge of the picnic area. Be sure you bring all the food you need with you, as there are no serious grocery stores for miles, and I mean lots of miles, around. You are in the boonies. The house is suitable for... More
