Its a royal pain to get to as my gps mis directed me but after a few missed approaches and some directions from a guard at the base we found it and were not disappointed.

The Wright brothers developed their flying skills over this vacant field. Bird watchers and plant naturalists will love this location secluded from downtown Dayton. Spent 30 minutes or a couple of hours. You might need bug repellent, but this site doesn't seem to get traffic....More

You may have to imagine just a little bit to get the most from this sight. Imagine two men who were driven by a desire to see something better. ...and if you fly...you know there is nothing better than flying, and it moved forward right...More

We really like how this historic field has been left alone. No big buildings, no gift shops. A few markers and mock replicas- just enough to soak in the history. Take the back road, and search out the creek in the fall. The colors are...More

The interpretive center was a wealth of information and the park ranger was such a pleasure to chat with! It was amazing to see the original flight field the brothers used to make history! A must-see activity for the entire family.

This is a little off the beaten path, near Wright Patterson AFB. The flying field itself is part of the base but accessible to visitors. However, it's the interpretive center that has information as a visitors' center. They have models of various planes and fun...More

As part of my weekend aviation heritage activities, I stopped by here after visiting the corresponding visitor's center. The site is in a little "remote" corner of WPAFB, but the site is peaceful and almost inspiring. The breeze was blowing when I visited, so one...More

There's more than meets the eye here at Huffman Prairie. First is a replica of the old streetcar station where Wilbur and Orville Wright would have gotten off. Near there is a path which goes out on to Huffman Prairie where the brothers experimented flying....More

Yes its just a field and hanger but history was made here as the brothers perfected their flying machine here and flew for hours. Just look around and imagine the flights they made and improvements to the flying machine.
