Happy to have read about this in the AAA Guide. This scenic waterfront park takes advantage of a pretty shady setting, winding trails through mangroves and live oaks to beaches and picnic areas. Live demonstrations of 16th century American life offer insights into the challenges to both cultures. We didn't feel the information provided was sugar coated, learned much about... More

This is a great park to visit. Visitor center has very informative film on DeSoto's expedition. Nice trail to follow along Manatee river emptying into the Gulf of Mexico. There are picnic benches along the way, also some near visitor center. Check their web site calendar for events. Good Spot !

One of Florida's interesting small parks, visit the demonstration area, the gift shop and descriptive movie and take the hike around the park, great views.

The location is really nice with excellent views around the Bradenton River. Whilst I don't wish to knock the exploratory achievements of De Soto, the Park seemed to play down the sheer brutality of the Spanish invaders who arrived uninvited, all in the name of Christianity, and seemed to have done their best to slaughter all the native Indians, and... We LOVED it! The "living history" talks and hands-on exhibits were SO good (make sure you check days/times before visiting). The rangers were very informative and the site was beautiful. Kids loved the junior ranger activities and the 1 mile hike through the property was very worthwhile.

Relive DeSotos exploration with a free film. Then go explore yourself on the trail and shores of Tampa Bay. I just had to purchase a home within walking distance between DeSoto national memorial and Robinson preserve so i am a stones through away from both of these natural attractions.

They have a short trail (about 45 minutes - 1 hour) along the water with gorgeous views. There is also a nice museum there of early Florida history. Very nice place to be outdoors. Plenty of parking.

On many weekends there are reenactments of when Hernando De Soto first discovered the area. Its not a big park but really relaxing, You can walk through in an hour. However stay longer, you will find the beach area where there is a 3 story cross! The trees near the visitor center are great for picture taking as is anywhere... More
