Sometimes when you research some sites of interest they can over exeragate what is there. Unfortunately this is one of those experiences. I took the web site information too literally and was dissapointed when we got there. There is an old wagon and a piece...More

Reminiscent of the old TV show. I remember well Ronald Reagan hosting this classic 50's show. Squint your eyes a bit while walking around the "20 mule team borax" wagons and you can almost transport yourself back to those days. OK, I'm a romantic but...More

You can spend 5 to ten minutes here and see it all. The old works are preserved in arrested decay and are interesting to see. If you go on a hot day, you can just imagine how miserable the working conditions were there, with all...More

Only stop if you have time, otherwise just skip this. As you can see from any pictures, there isn't much here. There will be a small 20 grade (100 yards) walk up a hill. I thought seeing the borax laced hills was the cool. This...More

I have been here several times, and there is a marker with a plaque that describes the Harmony Borax Works and the adjoining canyon next to it. It does not take too much time to stop and look at the remains of the Borax Works...More

A fascinating glimpse into the history of the Furnace Creek region. You have to wonder at the hardship the workers faced mining the borax in the dreadful temperatures with hand tools.

We had made a short stop here to learn about borax mining and the 20 mule team. But we decided to come back for a Park Ranger-led star-gazing party at night. The moon was only partly out, and the rangers pointed out a few planets...More

The borax works are just off the main road, just outside furnace creek. There are wagons, and the old workings - signs to read about It all and a path to follow around. You can just walk around, no charge, in fact no one there,...More

This was interesting - how they brought the borax to this site in these large wagons with a large water tank wagon on the back - all hitched together. The super bloom was beautiful.

This is a quick little stop with some history. There are a few buildings with partial brick walls left, the large wagon and some of the actual works. Worth stopping of you are going by, but wouldn't make a special trip here.
