A short drive from mammoth lakes is convict lake - it is beautiful and peaceful. A nice place for a picnic. The only reason i am not giving it 5 stars is that some of the locations close to the lake can have some thrash left by visitors. Lots of people come there to sit around and fish - hope... More

convict lake got its name from an incident in 1871, when inmates from a Nevada prison escaped here and battled their way out with a shoot out. today visitors escape here for fishing, horse back riding camping or to tie the knot. there is a restaurant.too.

Nice easy walk around the most of the lake. Not so scenic and colorful like I have seen in pictures. It might have been during the time of year we went. But was a little disappointed.

We stopped by because of the positive reviews. But unlike indicated there is no trail around the lake. Rather just a 300 yard long walkway with access to the lake. The lake seems to be mostly used for fishing and you can rent a boat or kayak. There are also bbq grills for the public. Since we wanted to hike... More

Didn't think trout like bear are voracious eaters heading into winter time....well they are....fishing was like nothing I've experienced....and me without my fishing pole....my daughter caught them all & didn't waste any time getting it done.....from a spot on shore. Next year I will have my fishing gear

It was windy and sunny when we stopped here. Not far from the highway and a real gem. Wish we had time to walk around the lake. Looks like a beautiful hiking and picnic area with lots of parking. Lake is set right up to the mountains and crystal clear!

We stopped at Convict Lake on our way home. It's easy to get to, and there's lots of free parking. The walk is an easy 2 miles around the lake. The lake view is beautiful, the water is crystal clear, and the mountains and trees are the perfect backdrop. The trail was a little too crowded and congested for us,... More

Convict lake is easy to get to. It was super windy on the day we visited. I noticed wonderful paved walking paths that would be excellent for families or elderly.

Lake Convict is a great lake to hike around. It offers amazing opportunities for pictures of the trees(one I took has a place near my desk where I post pictures which are important to me), Recommend this destination.

We took advantage of our jet-lagged early rise to drive here from Mammoth Lakes and watch the sun rise. It was so very beautiful and serene, definitely a stand-out memory from our road trip.
