Portraits make a visit worthwhile

This Greek Revival style architecture is definitely worth the visit, but inside is is an exhibit of portraits of the early power brokers of the US!

Lovely old building in Greek Revival style but the portraits inside deliver a wonderful social history of the city. Very worth spending time looking at these.

We happened to see this while walking around. It is a cool looking building but that's about it. You can also see the first bank across the street.

I visited here in February 2017. I recommend that you verify the days and hours that the Second Bank of the United States is open before visiting. The Second Bank of the United States has a fantastic portrait gallery. George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Paul Jones, Marquis de Lafayette and many others.... More

The Second Bank of the US, that imposing Greek revival building on Chestnut and 4th St. in Philadelphia’s Old City, has had a tumultuous history. I was intrigued and wanted to know how, according to the National Park Service marker outside the building, a 19th century bank building of historical importance became a US Customs House and now displays a... We visited this place in July 2016 and this building was under renovation thus closed to public. However, I stopped here with my family as I am a Banker myself!!!

My family and I entered the building expecting to see exhibits relating to money and how banks may have been run back then but instead got to see a beautiful gallery of historic figures from the star of our country. Free and very informative, this is a great stop through historic Philly

Visited the Second Bank of the US. The architecture is very interesting. Many painted pictures of famous people involved with the start of our country. We did not visit the vault downstairs. Doesn't look much like a bank inside...but does on the outside!

Building houses a portrait museum, but very little emphasis is placed on the bank itself. Would have liked to have seen more information on the bank in the museum.
