- A Midlife AdventureDursley, United Kingdom2,766 contributionsNot that impressive to be honest but worth a photoThe statue is free but there are people there organising the queue etc. I wasn’t actually sure if they were genuine employed workers or just locals on a hustle? We didn’t bother to join the queue as we weren’t interested n having our photo taken with the statue. We wanted just the statue itself which we managed to get in between changeover of people.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 25, 2023
- Charles SNorthamptonshire, United Kingdom1,039 contributionsHuge Tourist AttractionThe 72 steps leading up to the Philadelphia Museum of Art were made famous from the film 'Rocky' in 1976. A 10ft bronze Rocky statue was originally positioned on top of the steps where Sylvester Stallone stood but was later moved and placed on a pedestal in a grassy area near the foot of the steps to the right of the Museum. The position on top of the steps was replaced with a bronze inlay of Converse sneaker footprints with the name "Rocky" above them. There were three bronze statues commissioned, of the other two, one is owned by Sylvester Stallone and one is in the Schomberg Studios Gallery in Denver. The steps are one of the city's biggest tourist attractions.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2023

There are many routes you can take each morning. Phila being voted best walking city and for us a good running city along the cycling paths.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten November 5, 2023

If you want to take a photo with the statue you have to wait in a line, quite often really long.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 12, 2023
- tinylassSheffield, United Kingdom5,820 contributionsDecent statue in a pretty areaNot much to say other than the obvious - it's a statue of Rocky from the movies. It is in front of the museum to the right of the steps which also feature in the first film. It is in a gated area and people tend to queue up and wait till they get to the front of the queue to get an unobstructed photo which was good; only waited a couple of minutes in January although I imagine it would be busier in peak season.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 24, 2024
- tanagogo1Marlow, United Kingdom972 contributionsA must doA must do in Philly. When we went there was a modest queue (line) that took about 15 mins to get through to the front. Be warned! There was a lady there at the front who gave the impression of being an official. On questioning she freely admitted she was not and that any tips were voluntary, but there was certainly pressure to pay her for taking your photo. My advice, agree with the person in front of you to take each others photo and don’t pay the “official” guideVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 19, 2024
- Richie_IBlessington, Ireland285 contributionsRocky Fans VISIT!!!Visited the statue on 8th March and it was brilliant. We walked the steps and took loads of pictures. Well worth the visit if your in the locality. Highly recommend a tour guide as they know a lot of the in depth of these monuments that you usually wouldn't know.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 12, 2024
- Linda MLufkin, Texas99 contributionsGrandson’s senior trip with GrannyFirst we climbed the steps (we did not run like Rocky did). His footprints are engraved in the concrete at the top. Great photos taken. We sat and watched others climbing and running up the steps. The statue is off to the side of the steps. The line moved quickly and we took more photos.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 28, 2024
- FancyFelToronto, Canada29 contributionsSwing by on a rainy dayThe statue is close Tim the base of the rear lower level entrance. Don’t have to pay for museum entrance. Shorter line because it was light rain. Fun to run up stairs after. Not hard.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 12, 2024
- MickeyLeague City, Texas8 contributionsPark in Front of MuseumParking is availabe across the street from the front of the museum. You pay $16 with your phone but you need to pay as you are turning in. If you drive past the sign at the parking turn in you will have to walk back to it after parking. Just a minor inconvenience. I don’t know if the parking has a time limit. Rocky statue is next to the base of the steps, not on top of the steps.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 12, 2024

We got the obligatory photo in front of the Rocky Balboa statue, which was kitschy but begrudgingly cool. There was a Sly impersonator walking around when we were there, but the real story was the 20-30minute wait for a selfie with a statue while you pose in a pretty contrived way. There was a constant stream of tourists (like and including us) running up and down the Rocky steps. You may as well go to Philly and not get a cheesesteak. Actually, worse than that -- maybe I'm not supposed to say it but the cheesesteaks were underwhelming!)

The Rocky Statue is actually located at the foot of the Art Gallery steps at the end of the Benjamin Franklin driveway. It is easy to locate and reach, being a 20 or so minute walk from the Philly city centre. If you get there at a quiet time you will be able to pose in front of the statue and take all the shots you want. At other times it can be busy and you might have to queue. Most people then go on to run up the Art gallery steps and, for those that make it to the top with dignity, they leap and jump around in true Rocky style. This can be both entertaining and amusing as it is open to all age groups and some people bound up the steps with ease, whilst others falter. Don’t take it too seriously, it’s a bit of fun. All in all a great experience.

So glad we stopped her...of course we posed by the Rocky Statue and took pictures on the top of the steps he ran up. Friendly atmosphere, vendors sell ice cream and souvenirs here as well. You are warned NOT to give people hanging around the statue your phone to take pictures of you, but I saw people doing this and tipping the guy afterwards as he made suggestions of various poses that were actually cute! I found it disappointing to learn that the museum did not want the statue located here and it was moved four times....this is an iconic movie that adds to Philadelphia's history, they should be honored to have it here with so many visitors attracted to the area building up revenue for the city!

Went with 50 high school students from Florida. They may not know much about the Art Museum, but they alllllllll know about Rocky Balboa.
So much fun for them.
Just be careful of the steps in the rain/snow. It’s lit, but the steps are treacherous.

The line was long in the heat but there were people selling water, ice cream, and also gear along the way. It was fun to get some photos in front of the statue and fun to watch what people do when they stand in front of it! We took a few cool shots and then headed out. We climbed down the stairs after being in the museum and did not regret only climbing up a few since it was 100 degrees literally this day!

A must...especially for movie/Rocky fans.
Near the base of the Philadelphia Museum of Art stairs and nearby surrounded by the beautiful park.
Lots of people running up and down the steps as expected.
There was a line for taking pictures by the statues but it moved fairly quick as most people took a few quick photos and kept it moving...

Definitely worth the stop for this tourist. It's Rocky, come on! There was a line of people to take their own photos, but that's fine. Bit of a gruff fella was there when we went who was there to take pictures for a fee - some people went with that, some took their own photos. Short stop, but fun picture. It was hot so we bought some flavored water ice from a vendor to cool down and plot our next move.

If you love Rocky movies you have to see this statue. Its easy to find and close to other major attractions. The only downside is constantly being asked for money from panhandlers. If you want to have your picture taken with the statue there is a bit of a lineup so you might have to spend more time waiting in line than you would prefer.

I know that all tourists do this, but it is just a thing that you have to do! The Museum is also lovely, and you can walk to many other things from there. Most likely people will be there keeping the line moving and taking pictures for your group. They are by no means official but throw them a couple of bucks if you can.

Best Parking near the Museum/Rocky Statue
? Street parking or garage?
Written June 18, 2019
There's some parking behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art, but the Art museum is on a traffic circle and getting to the parking can be confusing if you're not familiar with the area. It's a stop in the Hop On Hop Off buses if you are thinking of doing one of those. The Rocky Statue is to the right of the "Rocky Steps" (the ones people run up like Rocky. There's a nice view straight down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from the top of the steps. BTW, the Art Museum itself is world class.

Domani 3 settembre è possibile vederla? Sarà accessibile al pubblico dopo il festival?
Written September 3, 2018
Per quanto ne so, essendo esposta al pubblico in un'area aperta, alla destra della scalinata, dovrebbe essere sempre aperta. Non si trova all'interno di un locale.

How difficult would it be to conquer the Rocky Steps? Are they steep? Really wanted to run them but not sure of the fitness level required.
Written August 15, 2017
Not difficult at all! And if you put "The Eye of the Tiger" you enjoy the exercise!!!

Pay only in sweat and shortness of breath. Awesome view of the city. The statue is free too. But there's always a line. Parking is tough. There are meters along the parkway, and pay lots at the art museum and Franklin institute.

Is there anything going on on the rocky steps on August 15 2015 that would stop us from going on the steps? We tried back in May but they had it blocked off both Saturday and Sunday

Hi does any one know of a cheap hotel near here, to accommodate 3 adults with a late check out.
Written January 31, 2015
We didn't stay in the city. We stayed in Horsham, where we were able to find a relatively inexpensive hotel that had free parking, breakfast, and wifi. It took us about 30 minutes to drive to Independence Park. If you have a car and you're willing to do a bit of driving, you might consider staying in one of the suburban towns just outside the city.
