Rowing is part of the fabric of Philadelphia. Boat House Row is lit at night and is gorgeous. To get the best view you need to see it from the River side (either walking along the river or seeing it from the Expressway - which can be dangerous if you are looking at the boat houses and not the car... I've participated in a few races along Boathouse Row. It is a very beautiful and peaceful place to visit and to run.

If you are on the schoolkill expressway at night this is one of the prettiest lit up sights ever. You must drive by. Never gets old!

Walk, run, job, bike, stroll along the beautiful river walk any time of day or night. Depending on the time of year, you can catch a high school or college rowing regatta which is always a fun party atmosphere. Food and bike rentals available. Great city views A hop skip and a jump to Fairmount Park.

The lights that are turned on at night make for quite a display. I am surprised there are not more accidents on the 76, as people do look, even when driving.

Crew (boat racing) is an amazing sport and Philadelphia is a major hub for crew rowers and fans. Even if you don't care about Crew (which you should...check out a regatta in the spring or fall season!!) the beautiful, old boathouses lining the Delaware River are illuminated at night, and provide for the perfect stroll after you're done your visit... We went in the daytime and I would have liked to go back at night. The view from the waterworks is lovely and I know they light it up in the evening. It seems to be a popular spot for joggers and is very pleasant on a sunny day.

Wonderful view from along the Schulkill Expressway at night when lit up. Better enjoyed from behind in daylight along Kelly Drive.

If you look across the water you see Philadelphia, the traffic, the building, the Philadelphia Zoo balloon and countless other things that you will miss if you're not paying attention. My advice to truly enjoy Boathouse Row is in the morning during the week, while everyone is at work. Take your time, stroll the row, or bike and let nature... More
