Spent 22 1/2 years in Navy, so this was interesting. Also saw his house, a little added attachment to the tour.

While walking around historical districts in Philadelphia, there is a lot of impressive statuary and sculpture to gaze up at. Most people, of course, want selfies at the Rocky Statue, but there is no reason to deprive yourself of good outdoor art work like this.

I didn't know what to think about the statue until the storyteller a few feet away asked us to sit on the bench and listen to his story. The story about Captain Barry and his sea battle and injury gave me an appreciation for the Barry statue. Well coordinated.

It's kind of a cool and symbolic fact. Our Independence (Hall) is backed by the Navy. Barry, rightfully, is the most common name for U.S. destroyers.

The statue of Commodore John Barry stands outside Independence Hall, overlooking the square connected to it. It is excellently sculpted, and very imposing.

Standing in what is actually the front of Independence Hall is a statue of Commodore John Barry, a major figure in developing the American navy.

We almost missed this : we spotted this statue on our way back from the Independence Hall tour, wondered who it represented, and discovered it was Commodore John Barry, a celebrated U.S. Navy Officer who grew-up in the same Irish County (Wexford) as JFK's direct ancestors. Barry spent the first 16 years of his life in Wexford, Ireland - his... More

Nicely crafted statue of Commodore John Barry, a major figure in the development of he American Navy. In the south plaza behind Independence Hall, this is a reminder of the importance of the focus on naval power to combat the omnipresent British navy and its threat to the emerging nation. A beautiful park with Barry's statue at the center, there... More

Good the statue is there - in the back of the Independence Hall - allowing us to remember the historically important figure, Father of the Navy of united States Commodore John Barry. The statue itself is classically beautiful, distinctive and monumental showing Commodore Barry in a commanding pose. It is made of bronze and made by the artist Samuel Murray.... More

Commodore John Barry was an important and inspiring person, deserving of a statue. However, my criticism is that the alignment of the security barriers at Independence Square means that relatively few visitors to Independence Hall will take the time to walk around to see the statue, which is the only thing in that part of the Square. My second criticism... More
