Being from NC and having ancestors who were in the Picket/Pettigrew/Trimble charge, this one is absolutely my favorite. I must admit I got a little emotional. I was told one out of four casualties was a North Carolinian. Says a lot about how many we...More

Created by sculptor Gutzon Borglum of Mt. Rushmore fame the statue is meant to pay tribute to the men who sacrificed so much. North Carolina had the highest amount of casualties from any state at the Battle of Gettysburg. The sculpture reflects this with a...More

This monument is a gorgeous sculpture. Completed by the sculptor who completed Mt Rushmore, the faces of the soldiers marching forward to capture their objective exemplifies determination and an earnest will to succeed.

The entire Battlefield is just amazing to visit, but how many people know this particular Monument was designed by the same gentleman that designed Mount Rushmore. So many things to discover in Gettysburg!! A week is not enough. But I've been here many many times.

There are very few Confederate monuments, compared to the dozens from the Union side. I guess the winners decide the history !

One of my family's favorite monuments on the Auto tour. Hope you find it as touching as we did. When you stand at the statue and look over the fields, you can imagine how the soldiers felt.

The North Carolina Monument is a beautiful piece of art. As you observe this monument, think of the fact that 25% of the casualties at Gettysburg were from North Carolina.

Superb large sculpture by the same man who would do Mt. Rushmore. This is on the western side of town where the Confederate troops amassed. Pickett's charge came from this area.

I was completely surprised when I learned that 1 in every 4 soldiers lost in the Civil War was from North Carolina. That almost sounds unbelievable. Worth taking a moment to recognize the sacrifices.
