Since opening in August 1988, Blackhawk Museums has displayed classic automobiles and myriad exhibitions exemplifying art, technology and history. Local students, residents and international visitors enjoy educational presentations, cultural programs and volunteer opportunities. Since the beginning it has been home to the Blackhawk Automotive Museum with over 55 vintage, classic, rare and sports automobiles on display. These automobiles are regarded as works of art and range from the dawn of the motoring age through the 1960's. In 2015, a new exhibition, The Spirit of the Old West opened, telling the story of the western frontier from the perspective of both the Native Americans and the settlers before, during and after the expansion west. The exhibition features authentic artifacts from the period, a large diorama depicting key historic moments, scenes of wildlife from the frontier and other elements that bring the past to life. Other exhibitions on display include the Wheelchair Foundation Gallery and an exhibition of Juke Boxes from the Golden Age and vintage oil pumps.

Great museum to visit with family or friends. A stunning collection of Ferraris, jaguars and old American cars. Took an hour to walk around and great photographs to remember.

This trip was a birthday gift for my step-son who loves automotive anything. It is hard not to love the classic exotic cars in perfect condition form Rolls Royces to Ferraris to T-Birds; all of which are things of beauty and works of art. I could not help but being impressed at the enormous wealth on display here. The Spirit... More

The Blackhawk museum had an interesting array of well kept antique cars. It also had the Spirit of the Old West exhibition to present a balance narrative of the westward expansion in the US from the 1700s to 1900s. This is a great place for car lovers. The extensive collection of antique cars equals no other place that I know... More

The extremely well done Indian museum shows the Native American story on one side and the Pioneer story on the other side. Most interesting! Lower floor has a high end automotive museum. Soon to open is a wing for African American history with extraordinary sculptures. Understand they will also have a unique Chinese display.

Filled an early afternoon with a visit to the museum. I had been before when it was only cars. Now it has a wonderful old west exhibit that includes the largest diarama anywhere with the history of the west Numerous guns, knives, outfits, stage coach and saddles. Wonderful.

The Blackhawk Museum is part of the Smithsonian thanks to the generosity of Ken Behring. It hosts traveling Smithsonian exhibits. The real highlight is the car museum. The floors gleam and reflect the polished surfaces of these magnificent automobiles. They are really works of art and many of them have a fascinating history. I am not really a car buff... More

I visited here after living a few miles away for the past 20 years. It's not good for a car museum, or Natural History. It's embarassingly weak and thin everywhere you look. Of all the museums I've visited around the world, this has to be at the bottom. I can't image anyone else enjoying any portion of this.
