Lots of interesting history, as well as a great view!

The historical carvings on the Astoria Column are interesting and after you make it up the 164 steps to the top of the Column, the view (on a clear day) is amazing! Even if it's foggy down in the city, the Column sits atop a steep hill and is often above the clouds, so venture up the windy drive to... More

This is a beautiful and historic column near downtown Astoria, Oregon. The views from the top amazing in all directions in good weather conditions. Before you climb to the top, be sure to purchase a balsa glider for $1.00 at the small gift shop. It's fun for kids (and adults) to see how far it will travel from that height!

This is most definitely a must see on your trip to the coast. Drive the curvy road up and as you reach the top you can see all of Astoria, the Columbia river all the way to the Pacific Ocean. THEN you start the climb I have climbed the column many times and count the steps (and forget how many) what... More

Quite interesting place to visit as it is at the top of the hill, plus when you climb the tower, a spiral staircare of over 160 steps you do get and awesome view at the top, not for those that are a fraid of heights! But you get an awesome view od the entire region around there!

We visited here on a cruise ship stop, on a day that started out so foggy that docking the ship in the morning was delayed about an hour. We saved the Column for the end of the day, when it was sunny and clear. A nice way to end a wonderful day of touring this coastal town. As others have... More

The view from the top of the column is breathtaking to be sure but you don't have to go all the way up there to see a beautiful sweeping view. The view and the photography from ground level will get you oohs and aahs from your friends. There is a 5 dollar charge to park but the pass is good... More

We stopped here on our way to Cannon Beach. The sights were gorgeous. It was $5 to park but the view was worth it. We did not go up the column as we wanted to stay on schedule getting to Cannon but it was absolutely gorgeous and the pictures were worth the $5!

Great piece of history. I did the climb 163 steps, it didn't kill me so I guess it made me stronger. Breathtaking view, which made my pain worth it. I suggest getting a glider from the gift shop they are only a buck and by the way my glider kicked butt. Everyone including my husband were very impressed.

This place was great. It is a little hike to the top but you are greeted with an amazing view. If you get there on a clear day you can probably see much more then we did. Beautiful grounds. Great place for a picnic.

This was our 3rd time at the Column. So fun to walk around and see the artwork on the outside. Going to the top is way fun! Make sure to buy your balsa wood plane to throw off the top! Weather permitting, it's an amazing view!
