So you drive all over Astoria in search of this highest point with this ok obelisk & have to pay $5 per car-but when you park & walk around the grounds you think you have stumbled onto a closely guarded secret place-one those who came...More

We visit Column almost every year since 2012. If you pick nice day, view is fantastic. You can see Oregon, Washington 360 degree. Parking fee is $5 per car. Used to be only $1. But still reasonable. There is small gift shop and bathroom. Few...More

So glad we stopped here! We were beginning our trip down the Oregon coast and decided to pop in here quickly to check it out. We arrived a little before it opened. We were checking out the views and the column and we saw someone...More

We were in Astoria OR for 3 days (always interesting things to see here-and great restaurants) and wisely waited for a clear, sunny day to visit this site. There is a $5 per car parking fee which helps support this site as well as the...More

Interesting artifact. We climbed to the top and, unfortunately were treated to fog so thick, that we could not see the parking lot below us. Ten minutes after descending, the fog lifted. Oh well.

Just make sure that you are up for the climb. On the clear day that we had, the 360 degree view blew us away. Take it all in, then go find ice cream in town!

We climbed to the top and enjoyed the view. Although the stairs are steep and there are a lot of them, it was worth the climb.

The view from the parking lot is amazing. It's approx. 130 stairs up the tower from which you can fly little airplanes previously purchased at the gift shop. A must visit while in Astoria.

There's a parking fee, yes, but you should also pay $1 in the gift shop (before you climb the column) to get one of the little wooden planes you can fly off the top balcony. It makes the trip even more memorable and it's... More

It is a little more than a mile and a half from the Maritime Museum on the riverfront, and all uphill. I don't know if there are buses that go up there.

30 min is about right but if you're lucky and have a great day then you'd want a little longer. I say plan for an hour. If you're in that much of a hurry then don't go. I've been there twice BTW.
