The military portion of the park is the old artillery battery that protected the mouth of the Columbia River. Lots of old emplacements to wander through, some old storage bunkers, look at the foundations of the buildings including the 8x8 barracks. Small but well done military museum. Park also covers jetties into the pacific, with a viewing platform at the... More

Visiting in winter certainly had some cold elements to it. Visit at high tide and low tide. Great picture opportunities abound. Don't miss out.

You can sign up for a Kayak tour (do so a couple days in advance) on one of the lakes inside the park. There are daily Junior Ranger programs led by rangers and nightly programs or movies. There are bicycles to rent on six miles of bike paths. There is a weekly bird watching tour (Ranger Dane), a must for... More

This is an outstanding place for the whole family. Miles of ocean beaches, hiking and biking trails. Swimming and fishing in the lake. There is also a backwater wetland area that can be reached by canoe or a small kayak for quite reflection or outstanding wildlife viewing. I have seen many kinds of animals including but not limited to deer,... More

I have visited Fort Stevens State Park on numerous occasions. You can be there completely alone at certain times, especially early in the morning. The park does not allow pets at certain times of the year, due to nesting birds. Pay special attention to the signs regarding when pets are allowed on the beach. If you enjoy visiting the beach,... I've never seen a military fort so expansive that you can walk through. Very friendly volunteers! Thanks for all of the information
