made the scenic drive during the hours between the daytime and after dark programs at McDonald Observatory. Does not offer the scenic overlooks or forest glades of other mountain areas, but still beautiful. Well maintained roads and not crowded. Since there's not much else to...More

Nice RV spots with full hookups. Convenient access. Interesting small towns to visit in the area. We enjoyed our stay.

Hike or cycle through the mountains. Drive the scenic loop near dusk and you might see a nice size mule deer. Pack some snacks and hike...the trails we were on were moderate difficulty and took about 2-2.5 hrs. Very clean. Supposed to have golden eagles...More

Davis Mountains State Park goes the extra mile for their visitors. They have a great interpretive center suitable for young and old. The bird habit connects to the center allowing a good view of their feathered visitors. Plus there is a nicely labeled pollinator garden...More

When I first visited this park as a kid, I thought we were in Colorado. Yes, Texas has mountains, only around 8,000 feet, but beautiful mountains nonetheless. The best view of the Davis Mountains and the nearby McDonald Observatory is at the top of Skyline...More

A day isn't enough time, period. A super short hike, maybe check out the fort, going to the observatory during the day would eliminate what it's made for. Going to Marfa would be very time consuming. I go to places like this... More

It's in Marfa. Actually outside of Marfa on Highway 90 near Valentine, Texas between Alpine and Marfa. You cannot miss it. Search for "Prada Marfa" for more details.
