Highlight is an original star spangled banner transcript in the hand writing of Francis Scott Key. A reproduction is on display at al times but at the top of the hour for 10 minutes the original is displayed. Museum has 3 floors, various sections focus on the revolution, civil war, civil rights and other local topics.

Awesome museum. Awesome library. Friendly folks. Shame that they knocked down nearly a block-and-a-half of historic buildings and homes a few decades ago, to create what is now a mostly vacant parking lot.

Have taken my children on several occasions. They enjoy the history about the toys children played with and had the opportunity to dress up on colonial clothing at the Historical Society.

My best friend and I visited, based on the variety of history mixed with art. We are from Pennsylvania, so we did not feel a pride or connection to all of the information about Maryland history. The museum was well put together, beautiful, and well-designed. Great for schools and class field trips, but not for two friends visiting Baltimore. The... More

It's a good museum and a decent one with artifacts and history surrounding the Baltimore area but there are better options I would choose. If your time is limited, I'd go to other museums located nearby (Inner Harbor Area) . It is a nice museum just too much emphasis on one subject.

I enjoyed this museum very much. Artifacts from the Civil War, war of 1812 and tons of furniture are just some of what they offer. very interesting place filled with history.

I was staying in the Mt Vernon area, and had some day light hours to myself. I strolled around the area, and bumped into this place. Its very well run. If you get the tourist pamphlet, you get $2 off your admission. All the exhibits are nicely laid out, and pleasant to view and displayed well. All the facilities that... More

Excellent historical museum with free parking. Our Washington, DC History & Culture Meetup group visited this museum and everyone loved it. They have several different exhibits: Maryland furniture, the War of 1812, socialite Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte (the wife of Napoleon's younger brother) the history of Baltimore, the Civil War and Underground Railroad, Civil Rights photography, and temporary exhibits. The exhibits... More
