The Basilica is a huge old cathedral and looks it. I've never taken the tour but the bath rooms are downstairs and you can wander around on your own. Cool place.

Really enjoyed walking through this basilica; it's light and airy unlike many old stone-faced cathedrals. Definitely take the time to visit the Pope John Paul II prayer garden outside. There are benches and it's just lovely in the springtime. Be prepared for a number of...More

One of the most unique architectural Basilicas with loads of history-- be sure to see the catecombs if you can and the museum. Christmas Eve masses are beautiful, the choir is excellent

This is a beautiful basilica. It's open to the public during the day, and you can walk in and tour the common areas at your leisure. Very serene and peaceful if you want a quite bread from the bustle.

This beautiful cathedral is glorious inside. One would never know it's more than two centuries old. It is light and airy inside and feels contemporary. Take a free tour! Visit the gift shop! Several great choices for dining in the near vicinity.

I had attended Mass at the Basilica a number of times decades ago during Holy Week. Back in the 70s the interior walls were "battleship gray" and this premier cathedral had a dark atmosphere. When I went to work in downtown Baltimore in 2011, I...More

I agree, although it is not far from the Amtrak station, since you are not familiar with Baltimore, a cab would be your best and safest bet.
