Be prepared for the unusual and imaginative at this museum housing works by non-mainstream artists, including the "whirligig", a 55-foot wind-powered sculpture, a 10-foot model of the Lusitania made entirely out of match sticks and a mobile that spans three floors.

there's this place with a plethora of imagination-packed pieces that inspire. I've been to tons of art museums but visionary art holds a special place in my heart. So many of the artists are examples of overcoming challenges through art. There's a whole room dedicated to art made of food. Another contains masterpieces by people who had major psychiatric diagnoses.... More

We go to AVAM once a year and always enjoy it. Interesting art. Not too big. Some rotating exhibits. Go see the other building too! We parked behind the building using meter parking. Gift shop is also fun to visit! With lunch we were there 3 hours. Highly recommend!

Great place with some very cool artworks all by 'visionary' artists who are either self-taught and/or inspired by visions of some sort. Every country should have one.

This place rocks. It's not your typical art museum so don't expect to find old masters hanging inside. However what you do find is art created by visionaries: "self-taught intuitive people who find their way into the making of art in an intensely personal way." It certainly may not be to everyone's tastes, however we found it to be exciting... More

I have gone many times to the Visionary Art Museum. I love all the glass work on the outside of the building and the exhibits always fascinate me. This museum is so different from all others museums. I also love their gift shop. I go there every November for Christmas shopping.

If you like folk art and the unique, definitely check this place out. So much to see, even the bathrooms have stuff to look at....seriously, this place is incredible and worth the admission price.

Nothing could prepare us for the quirky and interesting art presented in 3 distinctly different buildings. The visionaries whose work appear here come to life through videos, hand-written stories and explanations adjacent to their work. Understanding the people helped so much in appreciating their creations. Every corner of the museum offered surprises and delights.

I'm a big fan of Volis Simpson and mosaic work. The "paintings" created with bread were great. If you like the unusual this is the museum for you!

Groupon is what motivated me to make the trip downtown to visit this museum. The price was good (same as a group adult) and it had an expiration date. It was easy to park (Pay, street parking) and the access is right around the corner. We were greeted by two very pleasant staff members who gave a a brief overview... More

Not too many name artists here but some top quality, interesting art anyway. Especially like the wide variety of kinetic art, some large enough to ride in.
