Be prepared for the unusual and imaginative at this museum housing works by non-mainstream artists, including the "whirligig", a 55-foot wind-powered sculpture, a 10-foot model of the Lusitania made entirely out of match sticks and a mobile that spans three floors.

I had not been to a museum quite like this before. The outside of the museum is worth the trip alone! There are countless fascinating art pieces and stories about the artists throughout. After our second visit, my (at that time future wife) wife and...More

This is folk art in its most unrestricted forms. Paintings and sculpture like nothing you will find anywhere else. This art is not just outside the box but nowhere near the box. My husband and I usually enjoy more traditional art museums but AVAM is...More

We spent a few hours one afternoon here. Was a great place to see for any fan of "outsider art." The only disappointment was that the second floor was closed because they were installing the next exhibit. Lots to see, so plan your time accordingly....More

Zany art and a good place to catch some photos outside - enjoy visiting and thinking about the outdoor art - different perspective to my own, and so really worthwhile to catch a change of thought pattern!

To be fair we are not artsy fartsy kinda people. We thought it looked cool from the outside and a local recommended it as something neat to do. The main gallery is alright but like I said we're not art people so we wandered around...More
