Be prepared for the unusual and imaginative at this museum housing works by non-mainstream artists, including the "whirligig", a 55-foot wind-powered sculpture, a 10-foot model of the Lusitania made entirely out of match sticks and a mobile that spans three floors.

This unique museum is a "must see" if in Baltimore; there are only a few visionary art museums worldwide and this has to be the best. It is well run and organized with special exhibits. The restaurant is great and the museum store has all sorts of art at respectable prices. Overall worth every penny.

This is a not to be missed venue. The art on view is of the highest calibre of imagination and whimsy. To the creative soul it is balm. I was happy for weeks after my visit whenever i saw a mirror i smiled. Number one on my recommended list of things to do

I have been here several times. There is a main building and 2 others with some outside artwork also. A main exhibit theme changes now and then. Bob Benson's glass flashies and sculptures are a favorite! A new restaurant inside will open soon. The gift shop is packed with all kinds of stuff!

If you like non-traditional, hands-on, or funky art exhibits, then this is the museum for you. With everything from sculptures to mosaics, paintings to tapestries, this museum features--as its title suggests--visionary works of art. While there are some permanent exhibits, most of the exhibits change on a fairly regular basis, so it is worth visiting more than once. Because most... More

We were in Baltimore for the day and only had a few hours to spare, so we found this thru Trip Advisor and thought it sounded like a great place to visit. It was! Some very unique artwork to view and I loved the fact that you get the story behind many of the artists. Some very incredible stories! The... More

Went here as part of the Free Fall Baltimore free admission program, has very unique artwork that isn't typically found in a typical art museum such as The Baltimore Museum of Art or The Walters Art Gallery. The American Visionary Art Museum also did a free screening of Ghostbusters at Federal Hill Park during my visit as well.

What a wonderful experience. This gem is worth the time to go see. It is a small museum and will only take about 2 hours to go through. Really great work. Beautiful pieces. Amazing raw talent!

We really enjoyed this art museum, and went there to see a kinetic sculpture exhibit. But while we were there, we had a lot of fun viewing works by "untrained" artists, and appreciating their raw talent and vision and the way that each work embodied an aspect of the human spirit. It's a fun place to go just to get... More

We recently visited this museum with friends ........what a funky place! If the outside decor of the museum doesn't lure you into this place, then (hopefully) some of the great TA reviews will! We were in the museum for hours even before we realized it. There are so many unique exhibits here...........from the cleverly wood-carved moving displays (you can push... More
