Overview
More
Sherwood Gardens is a privately owned community park, originally called Stratford Green. The Park is Olmsted designed and in the center of a residential community called Guilford located in Northern Baltimore City. Guilford, another Olmsted designed gem, dates back to 1913 and is a Registered Historic District significant for its planning, its architecture, and Sherwood Gardens. Sherwood Gardens, famous for its annual tulip display, was created in the 1920’s by John W. Sherwood whose home bordered the Park. Mr. Sherwood indulged his passion for tulips by importing tens of thousands each year for planting tulip beds on his property surrounding the Park. Today Sherwood Gardens remains a wonderland of tulips in the Spring and a summer long festival of annual flowers. Thousands of visitors from around the world, come every year to enjoy the visual spectacle envisioned by The Olmsted Brothers and John Sherwood.

The daffodils, tulips, and azaleas make a wonderful springtime show, but the whole expanse of lawn and garden is delightful throughout the warm season.

Sherwood Gardens is a treasure. The flowers in spring are amazing! Lots of space for a picnic or a game of frisbee or football. There are trees to sit under for shade and wide grassy areas as well. Great place to sit and read a...More

A really peaceful, quiet and serene place to just walk, quietly talk, read or picnic. Go in late April/early May to really see all of the tulips, among a few other flowers, in full bloom.

The best to go is when the tulips are in full bloom, probably late April through May. But the gardens are beautiful anytime. Take a stroll and enjoy all of it.

Adding to the lovely flowers are the sweet recorder tunes in the tree. As of May 2, the azaleas and late tulips are still in full bloom

Every year I go and visit this garden. Each year I appreciate it and love photographing all the wonderful tulips and trees. It is a great place to take a lunch or dinner and just enjoy the atmosphere.

Free. Beautiful when in bloom. Fun. Off the beaten path. A must see if you live or visit this city. Easy parking. Great picnic spot.

There are no official hours as it is a public area. But I would imagine sun up to sun down. I have seen dogs there. But there are no bathrooms (for dogs or people!)
