A Smithsonian affiliate, the museum is Maryland's largest African American museum. Besides rotating exhibitions, enjoy live musical performances from gospel jazz to steel drums. Films in our theater have enriched audiences on the history of soul food, civil rights, and more. For families, programs like art workshops and living history bring our mission to life. Lectures and our resource center enrich what you'll find in our permanent collection. We also nourish the body with the best soul food in Baltimore at our museum cafe. Visit our website for a full calendar of events.

Took my 9 year old and his friend. A lot to take in. The third floor is like a maze and I quickly lost track of them. the staff was very helpful and informative. I found the boys outside the display that had a small sign asking guardians to screen it before allowing children in. Of course they had already... More

Did not nearly get the publicity it deserves. Truly extensive collection that details African American history (especially in Maryland) but ties it to national events of course. A must-see.

A very nicely done museum of black history in America. As a white guy, I learned a lot that I was never taught in school... It was fascinating, and certainly disturbing in many ways, but well done, with good depth if you have the time to go deep in certain areas. So while you can "do" it in 1-2 hours,... More

This phenomenal place is a hidden jewel, in Baltimore... right on Pratt Street, this museum encompasses far more than Maryland history and culture-- it stands as a testament to all individuals of color. there's so much to see and do, encapsulated within a community focus, that it should be a place where we as a world community gather and reflect... this was an unplanned visit. we had walked by the area and learned of this exceptional museum. I learned so much about African American history in Baltimore/Maryland and the nation in general. The profound and devastating effects of slavery and the resilience and beauty of African Americans. The exhibits in the museum were colorful and beautiful and it was easy... More

Reginald Lewis is outstanding, not just for its telling of African American experience, but of setting it so well in Maryland. Displays rotate regularly, so count on returning a couple of times a year. You will understand America much better after a visit here.

Very good location, in walking distance of inner harbor. Not a bad price for entry. Really interesting exhibits as well as they had a performance art event when we toured.

Modern museum dealing with the African American experience both historically and up to the present. There is moderate emphasis on the Maryland experience. Very interesting exhibits for everyone, black or white.

This was a great museum to visit. Very modern and beautiful. It was eye opening for the kids (17&9) and provoked additional conversation. We will go again when we return to Baltimore.
