About
The oldest continually operated Saloon in North America dating back to the late 1700s. The only Licensed alcohol establishment in Maryland to exist before, during, and after prohibition. The Horse you Came in on Saloon has been at the heart of Baltimore's local live music scene for over five decades. We've recently re-opened our doors and can't wait to get back to what we do: Live Music - Cold Beer - Good People + Better Times :)

I’m a male and was denied entry for wearing a tank top as per their “dress code” which is within their right as a business to do. However, multiple girls in tube tops and sleeveless shirts were allowed in behind us. Clearly they’re selecting who enters and who the rules apply to based on genders.

Trashiest bar in Fells Point. With its claim to be the oldest bar in the City and the place where Poe drank his last, you might think it'd respect its history. Not a chance. It's a red neck bar with high prices, nothing more.

Good historical bar to stop in and have a drink. Bartender was friendly and helpful. Decent beer selection but a little pricey, still if you can’t afford it then you shouldn’t be in there. Good merchandise choices too. Had a couple beers and then did more exploring in the area. Recommend if you’re in the area.

When we have friends from out of town, we always bring them here. We were disappointed that the old bar top was not there because of work being done. But, it is nice to see the bar top being worked on. Will be back next time we have friends from out of town.

This place used to be so much cooler. The front bar sucks and looks like it is under renovation. $15 for two Miller lites! Lol! Get your beer prices aligned with the other bars. You ain’t that special.

Incredibly racist and unprofessional business. A group of friends and I stopped by this past Friday for drinks and were kicked out 30 minutes later due to what they called a "mistake" but we know to be straight up racism. My entire group was forced out of the bar with no explanation or courtesy, we barely had time to grab our coats. Once outside we demanded an answer from the bouncer and were told that we had a large tab that was paid without a tip. Now there were over ten of us and we had all ordered at least 20 drinks between us and some food, not one of us had run up a tab as large as they claimed ($100) and none of us neglected to leave a tip on our purchases.

After many minutes of conversation, the bouncer finally told us that they had made a mistake and offered to let us back in. Apparently, it was some other group that had left the poor tip. My group refused to return and while we stood outside on the curb, we did not witness any other individual or group of patrons removed from the bar. The "mistake" explanation was thrown at us once we started accusing them of racism given that our group was mainly minority women that didn't fit in with the largely white crowd that night. If they truly did catch their mistake then another group should have been removed from the bar but that was not the case which goes to show that their explanation was really just a lie.

One of my friends had not been given a chance to even close her tab so we headed back in to do so. We asked the bartender about what had happened with our group and all she did was laugh and shake her head at us. No apologies were offered, not from the bartender nor the bouncers at the door. This was my first and last time at this bar. Horrible service, terrible music that was played way too loud and bad drink choices. We went to Bond Street Social afterward and the crowd was so much better. Save yourself the trouble and skip this racist bar.

NOT MILITARY FRIENDLY. Kicked out because i was wearing Army issued boots. "No boots allowed!". You read that right. A "cowboy" bar where you aren't allowed to wear boots. Freakin rubber sole boots and the doorman, didn't get his name (african-american with an athletic build and long tied back hair), kicked us out when we were no less than 5 feet into the bar after already clearing us for entry. We were a party of six, all locals, who have visited this bar before. We couldn't believe it - and neither could the others we met up with upon leaving. Rather than make a scene, we salvaged the night by going to other fells bars who didn't mind serving servicemen and women (Active Duty or prior service), boots or no boots. Will never be back. I appreciate the owner's response to the original review (had to repost because TA felt my caricature of the doorman as a clown with a now unnamed bodily appendage as a head was uncalled for - rightfully so, TA...my apologies) but calling into question my integrity (or any patron) on the first hand facts of an event when you were not present and then contradicting that accusation by stating you are changing your policy does no good for you or I. My verdict stands - Me and Mine will not be gracing your establishment again. I recommend others follow suit.

Your original review was pulled by TripAdvisor and, in my humble opinion, rightfully so. Disclosing my doorman's race, suggesting it was a relevant factor in you not being allowed entry because of your military boots is fictional. Calling your integrity into question is very different than challenging your side of the story. There are no African American doormen that have long, tied back hair employed with our company nor has there been for years. If a small nuance such as hair description is incorrect, it is plausible to believe that other details portrayed in your account could not be 100% correct. Acknowledging that our company should discuss and revise policy based on your alleged experience is not a matter of me contradicting myself, it’s a matter of recognizing that there’s always ways to improve our operations\procedures. And making a scene to where a floor manager, or myself could have had the opportunity to address the situation, in lieu of going to social media and making reckless claims such as us being “not military friendly,” is exponentially more damaging than any “scene” would have been. Either way, we are regretful to hear you had a bad experience . I whole heartedly agree that there are many fine places in Fells Point and spending hard earned money at an establishment where you presume you are being mistreated and discriminated against because you are in the military, doesn’t make much sense. Thanks for your service, all the best.  - Eric Mathias Owner

After the Ravens win, we decided to celebrate and we came across this bar. We ended up near the bar where the exit was. We started ordering a few drinks and then some waters. We had friends that were driving and were trying to stay sober for the ride home. We came in a large group so every 5-10 minutes at least one of our guests wanted a glass of water. I wish I would have known the bartenders name, but he did not have a name tag. Every time we ordered a water he would roll his eyes and say rude things like "You have got to be kidding me", "This is f-ing ridiculous" and most importantly "I don't get tips on water". Whats fascinating is we were not just getting water, we were getting drinks as well and it is his job to provide us with whatever drink we want, even if it is water. Every guest we had with us would leave a nice tip for the drinks we did order as well, so there was no need for his attitude to be presented to us. He also continued to talk crap about us to his other fellow bartenders. If I ever return to this bar, I'll be sure to drink water all night from that bartender just to piss him off again, maybe if you stop being rude to your customers, you'd get better tips and wouldn't be complaining about those tips in the first place.

I came with a coworker. I just moved here from out of state for work. The bouncer claimed my ID was fake with zero justification. He threatened to get the officer. I asked him to get the officer because my ID is not fake and I am very over age. He would not get the officer. Could not tell me why my ID was fake and would not let me in. He had never seen my state’s license before and made an assumption. Ruined my mood for the entire night. Attached are pictures of the racist bartender. Do Not Go Here. Very empty place because of rude customer service.

Went in here last week on a Sunday. Had a couple of beers, but was not impressed with the service. I later met up with some friends and we found ourselves back at the Horse. This time, Ashely was taking care of us and she was GREAT! Funny, great service (beer never went empty), informed us on the JD club, the infused shots, and just overall a great bartender! While this bar has a lot of history, Ashley is one of the more recent greats!
