The area
Neighbourhood: Downtown
Savannah's Downtown neighborhood is a picturesque fusion of historic charm and modern elegance. With its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages, and stunning antebellum architecture, one might feel like they've stepped back in time. Add to the mix the Telfair Museum, the oldest public art museum in the south, and the iconic Forsyth Park, and it's clear that culture and nature are intertwined in this district. The area is also a gastronomical delight, offering an array of dining options from traditional southern comfort food to innovative fusion cuisine. Easy access to the local public transport makes exploring this charming neighborhood a breeze.

We visited the park while we stayed in savanna and what a beautiful place.
It was February when we visited so it was cold with much many people around. So we got to see the park with its wide open pathways which made the trees look even bigger and more impressive.

At the centre of the park was the fountain . which looked magnificent

It’s free to get in and the streets around the park are very impressive and take you back to when this city was first established.

Highly recommended

A GREAT CITY PARK
Forsyth Park is everything a city park should be without all the noise and loud music found in so many other city parks. Lots of green grass for picnics, exercising, dancing, sleeping etc. Tennis and basketball courts constantly in use. Trees and Trees and more Trees. A beautiful park.

We parked the car on an adjacent street and walked through the park for less than an hour. While the locals can enjoy other parts of the park (there is a playground and a sports field to name a few), we thought that the fountain was the only thing that tourists may consider relatively unique. We returned after dark and took a few more pictures of the fountain. If I was to visit the park again, I would loop around the fountain and get out (there are plenty of nicely manicured parks in other cities).

We took the free dot bus to the park and then walked around. It’s a gorgeous public space with plenty of shade. We saw people playing catch with their dogs, picnicking, and napping. There are basketball courts, tennis courts, and playgrounds. While there are many people biking, parts of the park are pedestrian-only. Of course, the famous fountain is lovely, but there’s also an arboretum and plenty of flowers. Lots of shade and benches are there to let you just relax and enjoy the scenery.

I visited Forsyth Park in August by taking the free Cat shuttle. I enjoyed seeing the different architecture featured in the private homes surrounding the park. The avenue of oak trees were beautiful, however, after days in Savannah I realized I was allergic to the Spanish miss hanging from them. The fountain wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be. There are some benches to rest. I went in the morning so my feet weren’t swelled after much walking.

We visited the park in the evening time for a family stroll. The fountain is so beautiful and peaceful…and a perfect spot for photos! It was really nice to see it lit up at night. There is free parking near the tennis courts. We saw a lot of small children playing at the playground. There is plenty of open areas to picnic or relax. Walking distance to more historic sites. Would love to visit again in the future for one of the Saturday markets or festivals. A must see if you’re visiting Savannah!

When it comes to appreciating quintessential Savannah, Georgia, a case has got to be made for spending some quality time in Forsyth Park.

Ever try an internet search for images of Georgia (especially Savannah)? Well if those search results featured beautiful lines of Spanish Moss adorned trees beckoning you to a beautiful fountain, yeah you were probably gazing at pics of Forsyth.

This 30 acre sanctuary is nestled within the North Historic District and features an outdoor concert venue, large grassy areas for frolicking (or catching some rays), basketball courts, softball fields, tennis courts, and a sizable playground for the kiddos.

No big deal you say? Not sufficiently unique to pique your curiosity? Well in that case I “see” your ambivalence and “raise” you a “fragrant garden.”

Hello? Is this 🎤 on? Yeah, you heard me just fine. Although the enclosed Fragrant Garden was primarily intended for the enjoyment of the visually impaired, all are welcome to “sit a spell” and enjoy the various scents found wafting about.

You can spend as little (or as long) as you like here, but failing to make some time for Forsyth Park means that you only “mostly” experienced Savannah.

And that’s…Henry’s Take.

We stayed at a rental by Forsyth Park. It was awesome to be by the park. Fun just walking park, kids enjoying the playground, viewing the beautiful fountain, and enjoying the various activities at park. This is a huge park (30 acres) with awesome live oaks and more trees providing shaded sidewalks. On Saturday morning Vendors set up a variety of crafts for sale. As you walk you may see a graduation party, a wedding, or photo shoots for magazines- especially on weekends. The Collins Quarter Forsyth offers great breakfasts and lunches inside or outside on a beautiful outdoor terrace. There is even a walk-up window by the playground. Weekdays are less crowded making for relaxing strolls at the park.

We saw the park from the hop off, hop on bus and were able to jump off here and explore. The Park is pretty, especially the fountain. I think it is a definite place to see if you're in Savannah. We were there on Easter Sunday so it was a bit busy. We also walked to the end of the park where you can see The Mercer house from "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil".

Such a beautiful park in the heart of the city. We rented an apartment in one of the lovely homes that face the park. We could see the fountain from our window. We also walked through it several times. It was so nice just sitting on a bench, people watching and enjoying the beautiful fountain.
