Drive over from Savannah was more enjoyable than being on island. Very crowded, no parking, limited "tourist" shops. Not worth going in my opinion.

Tybee is a classic beach community about 20 minutes from downtown Savannah. A nice pier and clean beach with all of the things that go with a bustling beach community. But you can't get there by public transportation - too bad!

We traveled out to the beach for the sunrise one morning, beautiful. Spent some time photographing that and walking along the beach, took in the lighthouse, and then down to the pier. Very nice relaxing morning.

One of our favorite beaches ever!! We rented bicycles & road the beach from South to North. Beautiful powdery white sand on the south end, north beach the sand was more brown with lots of seashells.

This beach was nice and clean but incredibly crowded. There are tons of restaurant and souvenir shops right off the beach. Parking is limited, and you have to pay either at meters with quarters off the beach or with a card in the beach parking...More

Nice fishing pier, soft sand, swings at every boardwalk entrance, very clean. Great spaces for families to walk, ride bikes or enjoy the surf.

I visited both South and North beach during my stay on Tybee, and i greatly preferred south. It was less crowded, more relaxed and had softer sand compared to crushed shells at north beach.

I liked the north beach area better to relax and see the lighthouse. South beach is better for swimming but seems to be a popular spot. Loved our visit to Tybee Island.

tide was not in, too cold to go out but restaurants in area are pretty good. Stingrays for sure. You gotta go there.

We are staying in Richmond Hill, GA which is 25 minutes from downtown Savannah (Per Mapquest) and want to go to the Beach for a few hours tomorrow. Where should we go where there is not a massive crowd of people and/or parking issues.

I agree with conrad. Get there early, parking will be hard to come by all over town.

I'm from Iowa and taking my daughter on a college visit to South Carolina. She would like to spend a day at the beach, and see Savannah. But we are going March 30-April 2. Is this a big spring break destination? We don't want to be in the middle of wild college shenanigans on this trip!

South beach is removed from the main beach a bit and most of the beach goers go to the central or North beach. Granted that Tybee beach is not that large but I have not seen a lot of Spring break folks there at that time. IF... More
