There is something so peaceful and calm about a National Cemetary. The headstone are all lined up like the soldiers they are standing guard over. My Daddy is buried here so it has a special place in my heart.

I visited on a Sunday to find my GGGGrandfather's grave who was a Union soldier during the War Between the States and died in 1864. He is one of four in my family who fought for the Union out of close to 20 ancestors who fought during the war. Being as the majority were Confederates, this ancestor was often overlooked... More

Seeing our soldiers who are no longer with us buried in such a uniform manner, was somber. It affords a feeling of gratefulness for their service and a reminder that we owe our freedom to all. This is a beautiful and interesting cemetery for any visitor, but especially to those with loved ones buried there.

This is the burial site of lots of our veterans. One in particular is the grave site of William O Darby a Fort Smith native son and the founder of the US Army's Darby Rangers.

Visiting this National Cemetery reminded me how proud we should be to live in America. It's very humbling to see row after row of white headstones for those that served our nation. The grounds are beautiful and very peaceful. We enjoyed reading the history of how the cemetery came to be and the difference in the Civil War headstones. If... More

I was at the National Cemetary a few day ago and not only saw the history but also watched the Marine Corpse League show how they respect their fellow military personel after they have passed. A 21 gun salute along with the flag folding. These men and women were awesome.
