Take the trolley tour at the tourist center first to get that of the land. The mere is a small museum with a partial documentary. If you do not know the history any short summary would be stupid. For some reason everyone knows about Gettysburg...More

Between the visitors center and the walking tour, you gain an excellent understanding of the battle and its effect on the town. The movie is well worth the dollar or two they charge. The walking tour is short (about 45 minutes), but very informative and...More

JMJ I highly doubt that you can horseback on the historical field itself but maybe there are stables nearby. I don't remember seeing any but the area was very lush and hilly; there could have been.
