Colors were beautiful, sights were awe inspiring, and folks were super friendly...it's the south, in the fall, what better place and time to visit. Wish we had more time to see everything. History came alive...going back!

Several years ago a Boy Scout working on his Eagle project put together a walkinig tour of the various Civil War battlefields that allows scout to tour the battlefield, get a hands on (or feet on) experience and earn a badge. You get the info at the Fredericksburg Visitors Center. Great for scout but also for any school age boy... More

Hiking trails in and around the Fredericksburg, Va. area are unique and adventurous. I saw wildlife, flowers and awesome views of the Rappahannock River. Enjoy!

Being visitors from the U.K. and Interested in the Civil war sites we called here en route to Alexandria and made a point of walking the battlefield site around Marye's Hieghts which is in a fairly high location and standing atop can see and visualise the difficulties faced by the Union Army attempting to scale these heights have crossed over... More

driving, biking, or even walkable education on the most fought over ground in the civil war, with multiple side trails and ecellent signage, pleasing for ant student of the civil war, neophyte or professor... but extreme caution required especially on toute 3, but much of trail is on scarcely traveled side roads lots of wildlife, espscially deer and turkey
