We drove to Circle and truly "circled" at the Yukon River and drove back out since the store was closed when we arrived and there's nothing else to do. We stopped in Central for snacks at the General Store/Bar. Viewed caribou herd at Eagle Summit,...More

We traveled the Steese Hwy all the way to Circle, AK. There were sights to see around every corner. There's an old mining outfit that had a canal from a river hand dug from 90 miles away, and a dredge still assembled and floating just...More

The first 81 miles of the highway are good pavement, followed by very well maintained dirt/gravel. First gas is in Central, so plan accordingly. There is also gas in Circle. Lots of great Waysides with information boards describing the area and the history. Saw caribou...More

We drove to Chena Hot Springs at the end of the highway. It's an interesting trip on good roads. Some nice scenery with a chance to see moose (we didn't) and enjoy a dip in a hot springs pool at the end of the drive....More

It is a scenic drive before reaching the Dalton Highway. While traveling along the Highway, you will see the Alaska Pipeline from the Highway.

The Steese Highway offers pretty views. It might be somewhat challenging for young kids. Make sure you have a full tank of gas because there are few gas stations along the way

Not a fun drive but gets you from place a to place b. This area has potential and the roads could be better with more attractions for tourists

If you can do your own, do it! The cruise lines only take you to the things they want you to see and if you go on your own you can go to many out of the way amazing places. Our favorite area was the Kenai Penninsula. We... More
