More than just a boat ride! Board the Sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery for one of the most unique Alaskan experiences available! This three-hour cruise will take you into the heart of Alaska and introduce you to a family who has made the rivers of Alaska a way of life for five generations. You will see a bush floatplane takeoff alongside the boat, visit the home and kennels of the late four-time Iditarod winner Susan Butcher and see her champion sled dogs in action. Be immersed into the ancient Athabascan Indian culture when our Alaskan Native Guides take you on a personalized tour of the Chena Indian Village.

On our first day at Fairbanks leg of our Alaskan trip, we had a boat tour at Chena river and it was a great experience. The small port where the boat was waiting for the guests has lots of souvenirs shops so in case you go early, you can do shopping as well. Despite the fact that we bought our... More

A great way to spend a few hours. The crew is very professional. The narrator is local and has great stories to tell. You'll stop at Susan Butcher's kennels for a sled dog demonstration and maybe see some adorable puppies! You'll disembark at an Indian Village and learn all about the Athabascan way is subsistence living. Along the way you'll... More

This ride on a riverboat down the Chema River is pleasant and comes with great commentary. The homes along the river show the contrasts of Alaska. The Athabaskan village is nice and the stories are interesting. Getting to see Susan Butcher's daughter's dog training camp was delightful.

My wife and I went on this river cruise included in the itinerary on our escorted ‘Natural Wonders of Alaska’ tour with Titan Travel. Our tour had arrived in Fairbanks staying three nights on a room only basis at the very welcoming and comfortable Bridgewater Hotel on the banks of the Chena River. Our motor coach took us to the Riverboat Discovery complex with plenty of... Riverboat is popular if kitschy tourist attraction. Distance is limited since sand bars have blocked entry to larger Tanana River. On-board food is OK but not up to standards of many Fairbanks restaurants. But if you don't have a boat and/or don't want to paddle a rental canoe, you can enjoy the float.

We went on the riverboat discovery with my parents who came for a visit last summer and it was a great experience. We had so much fun and it's totally worth it.

We lived in Fairbanks for 5 years & every time we had visitors in the summer I brought them here! I probably have done this 4-5 times - and loved it every time! It's a great sample of interior Alaska - very different from the inside passage that the cruise ships show you. They start with unlimited donuts when you... More

This was part of our Celebrity Cruse package and I"m glad it was. To get on board One has to go, of course, through a huge gift shop which turned out to be a fun experience in itself. The cruise is narrated as you sail so you always know what you are looking at. At a couple of stops the... More

It was sometime ago that my husband and I went on this river cruise during one of our visits to Alaska from the UK but felt I wanted to comment after finding this on trip Advisor. It was a very enjoyable cruise, great commentary from the "Captain" and plenty to see along the river banks. The boat is large so... More
