With a population of only about 37,000 (regionally only about 100,000), this is really a small city. With only 100,000 people to draw from, one cannot expect everything that a major city would have (even with tourists). However, Fairbanks has everything that it needs. For...More

It's an empty worn out town. Certainly not a city, but a small town feel. Limited options to do, limited dining options, and bit of a snooze.

There is not much to see in Fairbanks downtown. An hour walk is more than enough to see everything worth seeing. On Fridays it's full of dranks.

The downtown area is clean and easy to navigate. There are many areas of interest and plenty of places to eat covering most anyone's taste buds. Even during the summer months we did not find it busy as one would find it in Anchorage. It...More

Downtown was much smaller than I had hoped. There is a visitor's center which is like a museum, a few restaurants, a fudge shop, and a few stores for souvenir shopping. The highlight of downtown is the ice museum, but be dressed appropriately for it.

The river park is nice. But very lacking in eateries and shops. Went on a Friday evening and everything closed. In addition, beware if you don’t like smoky bars. Laws here allow it

We stayed downtown and we took walks around but only found a few restaurants but hardly anything else to do. It is just a place to stay before you move on

I love Fairbanks and have been there twice. There's so much to do, see, and learn. I visited once in the summer and once in the winter and both trips were wonderful.

I stayed downtown on 1st Street, at the Springhill Suites. Loved the area where we stayed -- charming and convenient. Lots of little shops and restaurants, some of which were really good (e.g., Lavelle's Bistro). There's a really nice walk along the river too.

I did not see any free shuttles. Taxi's were reasonable. Its not a big area. Maybe walk one way and taxi the other.
