I drove down Flatbush Avenue south of the Belt Parkway heading towards the Rockaways. It was late afternoon on a beautiful Saturday. Plenty of people riding bikes and rollerblading around the area of Gateway. Much quieter and less congested than the area further north.

This avenue runs north to south through various neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Plenty of shopping (and traffic) by Kings Plaza. Nice selection of Caribbean eateries by Brooklyn College by the 2/5 subway. I drove most of the length of this avenue and over the bridge to the Rockaways.

Flatbush Avenue is the world famous main Street of Brooklyn. Starts by the Manhattan Bridge and runs south to the Rockaway Peninsula. So many restaurants, stores, and landmarks along the way, including King's Plaza Mall.

My family has roots that have been laid down well over 100 years ago around Flatbush Ave. My aunt, uncle, and cousins (and next generation) still live close by, close to Mill Basin. Flatbush has great shopping and restaurants. Definitely holds a special place in my heart, as this Avenue is the center of Brooklyn and a hub for my family.

I grew up in this area as well. This long stretch of Flatbush Ave has been declining since the 60's. And now it ia a comlete mess from north to all the way yto the south. It has become little Haiti with peole who have no respeact for property or any redeeming social value's. Dollar vans will cut you off and put you on the sidewalk to get to a red light. I have since moved from this neighborhood and am always sad when I go back to visit.

I lived on Flatbush Ave, right across the street from an indoor mall (flea market type of stalls). On weekends you could hear their fun Caribbean music blocks away! There's a lovely community vegetable garden a couple of blocks from Flatbush Ave., near the Church Ave. Q & B train station, where I brought my food scraps for composting. And right near on Church Ave. is a great health food store, the Downtown Market. One of our favorite stores was Bobby's Department Store on Church Ave., also near Flatbush Ave.; there was nothing you couldn't find in this store, plus all was sold at bargain prices. The architecture of the churches up and down Church Ave. on either side of Flatbush Ave. is very beautiful and worth seeing. On Flatbush Ave. are wonderful Caribbean and Soul Food restaurants, including great takeout fish places and takeout Carribean and Soul Food places as well. Here and there you can find an Indian cuisine or Japanese restaurant as well. As far as shopping, you can find just about any kind of store you need on Flatbush Ave., such as clothing and appliance shops, hardware stores, 99 cent shops galore, furniture stores, etc. I so enjoy the Flatbush Ave. area and Church Ave. shopping as well. Another great benefit of this area is we were just a few blocks away from Prospect Park! Don't miss out on the restaurants, the shopping, the community garden, and Prospect Park; visit this area (Flatbush Ave. near Church Ave.) and enjoy!

Great up in Flatbush. Great stores, wide variety of places to eat. True Brooklyn "flare" about the area.

Flatbush Avenue is getting gentrified so fast that you can't keep up with the businesses. I walked the street from the museum as far as I can walk just to see all the 'for rent signs' going up. I have never seen an area change in just eight months but it keeps doing it.

All of the older businesses keep closing to be replaced by all these new restaurants and shops that cater to a completely different customer.

Let me put it this way, the neighborhood keeps getting lighter and younger.

This Avenue is one of the most Important Streets in Brooklyn, largely because it goes from Manhattan Bridge to the Marine Parkway Bridge bypassing Downtown Brooklyn, the Prospect Park Area, Greater Flatbush, and Southeast Brooklyn in the process. It flows relatively well even during major events which makes it a better street to cross in Brooklyn. One can see more classical ethnic neighborhoods and the areas being gentrified along this avenue and can find regular shops or large commercial stores as well. This avenue will also lead one to the Barclays Center and Brooklyn College. This Avenue also is where several subway lines run under and near and it bisects the entire borough at an angle. Overall its a very important street and since it flows nicely and encompasses many different neighborhoods of Brooklyn, it is an Avenue one should take if they are looking to see the entire borough.

I was visiting Barclays Center for a NETS game. I came here by LIRR and met up with my friends before the game to see where we could grab a bite to eat. We had a North Flatbush Avenue map and a listing of all restaurants by category. It was helpful. We walked just a few short blocks and came across some great places, both small for a quick bite, like 67burger or expensive, like Piquant or Ve'Beh". There are some great sushi choices and if you like outdoor dining there is a burrito place a little further up. Cant miss it. It was a safe, well lit street after the game and we were surprised how many restaurants were open. Just follow those flags on the street lights to find your way to North Flatbush Avenue after a game or concert at the Arena. Its worth the trip. Oh, there is a great shoe store called Jatame and it is fun just to browse what a $2,000 shoe looks like.
