Poplar Lake is one of the best lakes on the Gun Flint Trail. It is located about midway up the Trail, behind Trail Center Lodge, and has a number of bays. Excellent for beautiful sunsets and wildlife. We saw an eagle catch and eat a fish while we were canoeing.

Beautiful lake with islands. Entry to the BWCAW. Easy portage to other lakes, or just fun staying on this lake for a short trip. Outfitters with canoe rental available on Gunflint trail.

Beautiful area, gives on a typical view of the whole area. Worth a visit, half way up the Gunflint trail from Grand Marais. We often stop at the historic/rustic Trail Center restaurant for lunch. Now a friendly refreshing stop with a great view of the southern end of Poplar Lake. Other Lodge restaurants along Poplar lake are also worth a... More

Caught northern, small mouth, and walleye. Easy lake to navigate with lots of hidden coves that are protected when it is windy. Seems like all of the coves held nice small mouth that kept the grandson very busy and happy.

I wish the weather and fishing were better. But the lake was fantastic. For boat owners watch for rocks.

Poplar lake is easily accessible with multiple lodges and restaurants up the gunflint trail. Paddle into the Boundry Waters or motor around the lake and fish or just enjoy the scenery.
